I thought the episode was one of the best. I could rewatch it again and again. A study of the psyche: How people see us, how we see ourselves, and how we really are. I now know who Villanelle is. Fab.

I think the issue with villanelle and her mother is all about the mothers jealousy.The mother said villanelle ruined her, how can a child ruin anybody.Alot of times mothers become jealous of their daughters i believe that was the issue.she basically said villanelle had the father wrapped around her finger.i believe thats why she wanted her gone and villanelle can even remember that she wasnt a good wife or mother.The mother was cruel and hateful thats why villanelle and the brother have anger issues.She was probably a convincing actress to most people.Shes that mother who hates her own daughter because shes close to the father and taking away attention from her.Then villanelle ptobably got alot of attention because she was was pretty alsi making her mom jealous.Villanelle was the mothers pawn i dont think she was the problem thats the excuse the mother used.i agree with Villanelle the father was sick of the mother.you might be onto something with the father maybe her mother killed him over jealousy and being on villanelles side she may have felt betrayed.

The moment the mother decides to ask oksana to leave is after she noticies how much atention and love she is getting from the brothers.

As for the episode itself. I think it was brilliant. Jodie's acting was spectacular. It was rollercoaster of emotions, it gave depth and truly touched something in Villanelle's messed up mind. Events going down in that village will have/had much bigger impact on Oxana, far more than anything (expect for things related to Eve) else happening in her life so far/in general. It might be only me, but I think the reason why those two boys were the only survivors is the reason they were Villanelle's only real family. If you take count of who died in the explosion, the Mom, the step-dad, the step-brother and his girlfriend. The reason why I think that guy is a step-brother is due to Pyotr (real brother) being about the same age as Oxana, in their interactions they've never talked about that guy even though he is either their age or older, not to mention that step-dad was married like 3 or 4 times, figures he would have a child from one of those marriages. Regarding the little boy, he seems to be born from this current marriage, therefore making him a half-brother to Oxana.

I have a feeling that Villanelle was probably abused as a child. Given how many times the Mom said she was "difficult", she may have resorted to beating her when she got frustrated. Then when that no longer had an effect on V's behavior, she abandoned her at the orphanage. I do think V's reaction was more one of "oh crap, i'm not ready to confront my mom" rather than fear of her mother though.

She certainly has those behaivors of an abused child.And she said her father taught her how to fight so yeah as a child she was defenseless but not as an adult.

An origin story- exactly. And think back to when Irina was asking Villanelle is she a good person? I actually felt this episode is going to score her next award bc it was so deep and intense. I think she has loyalty to people that she sees herself in them. She saw herself in her brother when he was beating on the couch with the log. She saw herself in Boris (half brother)when he shared that their mom called him stupid and that he embarrassed the family. That’s where she flipped the switch.

@@charlie.tt4 wow that surprise me, I am glad. I rate the first episode so low, because is quite slow and depressed, also Eve and Villanelle seem a bit out of character. For example, I can not imagine Eve hiding in fear from Villanelle, or Nico in an institution, or V with that high rage-joker contrast or assuming that someone falling from a short ladder was death.

This episode was a 10 for me. This episode really show why Villanelle has so many darkness inside of her with no remorse for her killings cos her mother made her that way. I don’t know people rated this episode low cos there was no Eve and V soap opera romance moments. It’s obvious why episode 3 was a 10 for most people lol

How can Ep 5 be the best when there is no Eve? No obsession on Eve? No sexual tension? Well Jodie’s acting is the main reason why it is that amazing.

The show’s not only about Eve and Villanelle obsession with each other and this isn’t a soap opera. This episode was amazing cos we get to see why Villanelle is a psychopath Killer cos her mom made her who she is.

Honestly, I would expect more from an Afterbuzz show. I feel that the hosts here are doing a lot less of a preparation and study for their show, than what I would expect from a show of this caliber. The problem might be that I'm comparing this Afterbuzz to Westworld's. I know, I know, that show is 1000% more complex, hence it requires more effort put into it, but still. I do appreciate and like the segment at the end of the show, that is some effort, great job! However, when it is part of your job to give an analysis and recap about a show, I'd expect the hosts to watch the episodes at least twice, or perhaps watch the entire show from S01E01 before the new season airs, so you are fresh on the details. Currently I am doing that. I love this show, it is one of my favorites and it saddens me that this aftershow lacks depth and effort.
