Holy shit. That was absolute cinema with that custom intro, I was not ready for that at all! This was one hell of a tribute for the game, and I’m honored to have made a map remake worthy for such use. I missed the UT mod days, but was there for the early days of retail, I loved Offices. I remember seeing a remake for KF2 in the works, but I wasn’t satisfied, it was pretty far off the mark of the original map design, and so I ventured into kF2 modding. My very first release I will treasure, but I’m who strives to do my best and I knew I could do even better, and I decided to remake the remake, only OGs will remember the original KF-Offices (had to hide it from the workshop to make way for the rerelease and avoid server map list conflicts). I had some help from Killmaster just for some rain shaders he made from scratch, he’s a god in shaders, even though his contribution seemed small, it was big and important to me to add those nice detail materials to the map. And so I finally released the new KF-Offices, which is what everyone plays today and is still under most subbed of all time. It was an honor to remake this map with as much carefulness to encapsulate the design of its predecessor, while challenging enough to make it work for KF2 and its new mechanics. KF2 being far faster, challenged me to expand the map, and I had to do so without ever changing the original layout, and so you guys got what I came up with, and I think it worked out great. My favorite addition was the fence hole on the rooftop, I thought it was lame to only have 2 entry ways, especially as how tight the stairs are, and how the original roof layout is basically a dead end in the middle, if things get rough you have no options but try and survive. So I came up with a suicidal 3rd option for those “just in case” moments, but I know many have probably died from mistakenly jumping directly to the parking lot, had too low health to land on their feet or were pushed by a zed far too off, lmao. I also dislike dosh objectives, it’s a gimmick to me, but I wanted to ensure full feature support. Only thing I didn’t really get to ensure support was VS, I dislike the mode itself, I’ve never found joy playing as the mob in games with such game mode. It was also hard to make playtests with people at the time, so I left it up to Lady Luck. This honestly made my day, and I’ll cherish this. I’ve gone off the rail in modding, I stopped working on my 2 other projects, and it’s hard to get back on track and with that excitement to mod again, but I’m slowly getting the itch back again. I’m skeptical on things gearing up for KF3, I once again feel the absence of the grittyness and grunge of what made KFs original mod and retail’s atmosphere, but I’ll be there to revive old projects and more importantly remake KF-Offices once again, and with the new mechanics being added to KF3, this is gonna be one hell of a remake!. I have so many ideas on new additions and changes, but I’ll never butcher the layout and feel of the original map, was my philosophy back then and will still remain moving forward. Having finally been able to play the original Killing Floor after Medic maining in KF2 for so long, I've got to say two things that some may agree with and some may not. 1. We really take zed time perks for granted, it's crazy how used to it I've gotten, going into the original, I was taken aback by how difficult it is, even with max level perks but especially as Medic. Seems like a total 180 from Killing Floor 2, where the Medic, even nerfed as it is in 2024, is still one of the most survivable classes in the game, whereas in the first game, you'll easily find yourself overwhelmed by even one scrake, at least when playing solo. Add to that the absence of aim assist with the healing syrettes and you'll find yourself really struggling to be a proper healer as a former veteran of KF2. Makes me wonder what direction the medic will be taken in, in the third installment, but I don't have high hopes for it, seeing the characters and all, just doesn't seem right to tie the healer to a specific culture, or group of people. 2. I feel like the only true vision for Killing Floor was Killing Floor and KFMOD, like the grunge of the games was what made Killing Floor Killing Floor. Sure, the second and third games have made improvements to the mechanics, the hitboxes, the texture quality, gore, etc... but it's no longer Killing Floor without the grungy industrial grindhouse feel. I feel like we could easily retain the grunge of the original without sacrificing graphics or mechanics, something akin to the Outlast series, they managed to maintain the exact same level of horror and their gritty atmosphere throughout every single installment, including Outlast Trials. Maybe I'm wrong though, idk lol, just sharing my opinion, at least they're not pulling what they did with No More Room In Hell 2, God that was a disaster.
