The number is about working in a meat "factory", the killing floor is where the cattle reach the end of the line from ranch to go on to become beef. In a similar kind of thing, the work was done by people who had travelled as far as the cattle, but from elsewhere. I have worked in a meatworks, it is not pretty, and smells worse. I still want steak.

She may be playing the blues but I'm not feeling them. Lot's of people can hit the notes but making people feel them is a whole different story.
