His first mechanism relied a lot on power, this second one relied on process. The first one failed since the dragon basically just gets yeeted away because of the tnt, the second one doesn't since it's releasing just the right amount of power that the "perching on the fountain" phase doesn't get cut off by the force.

Awesome! I can't wait until I learn redstone well. I think this very much relied on the "redstone" of the Ender Dragon to work. Throwing her off balance is crucial, because her usual behavior is different on the "rising edge" and the "falling edge" of her pain threshold, which formed a stable clock (low health, full health, low health, ...). That's what made it so difficult to get a working solution. But, she has to have an update at the exact center before she can leave it, and she couldn't get it with an explosion happening every n seconds, where n is less than the time it takes her to get to the center. That pinned her to the rising edge, and she couldn't switch over, even though her health was falling. I'm not sure, but that might be the reason staggered TNT had such a better effect in the prior video.
