"I wouldn't be who I am today without hardcore, and Agnostic Front had a major part in that," Killswitch Engage singer Jesse Leach says at the beginning of Episode 2 of "Flex Your Head" - his interview-series with Revolver - introducing guest Roger Miret. Over the course of the next 35-plus minutes, the two frontmen dive deep into NYHC history, share war stories from the road and discuss the ties that bind the hardcore "tribe" and how tough times can inspire great art.

This is a truly outstanding interview. Jesse is a great interviewer and Roger seems really, pardon the pun, engaged. This wasn't some fly by night piece with two people bored of each other; this was REAL. Well done.

So good. My first hardcore show was AF, Carnivore and Crumbsuckers at CBs in ‘85. Totally life changing.

Oh the irony, Roger Miret talking to the guy from Killswitch Engage ; a band that epitomizes the total commercialization, de-tribalization, and blandness of current “hardcore.”

I agree, I don’t know anyone who is really in the know about NYHC who listens to that. I definitely don’t, I couldn’t even name a song. It’s so generic and glossy, why bother? But it is a good opportunity for Raja to recant and get more exposure which is good. These guys had a solid white power fallowing in the mid eighties, I saw that shit first hand. Raja doesn’t talk about that, but he did squash that connection. At the end of the day He’s a good guy.

@@centralscrutinizer66 Uh hey there, I'm a dude who had jams out to NYC Mayhem, Gorilla Biscuits and Rest in Pieces who also likes Killswitch, nice to meet you. Also, their new stuff is pretty polished yeah, but the first two albums are pretty raw, along the lines of stuff like 7 Angels 7 Plagues and Prayer for Cleansing

First of all Killswitch is not a Hardcore band , they play Metalcore. Also, that whole " tribe from the street " pose is crap and absolutely unnesessary to be a NYHC fan
@user-user-user-user.
@user-user-user-user. 3 жыл бұрын
@@Julian.Perasso Actually, the lead singer has described the band as “hardcore” on several occasions. To be fair, he has also said that the band’s sound “defies labels and genres.” Er, whatever. Let’s all take a deep breath and be happy that the era of the formula-driven Killswitch-type bands is coming to a close.

I'm 47. I was like 16 living in Chicago already heavy into Metallica, Slayer, DRI, Suicidal Tendencies, Sabbath, Maiden etc. And just like Jesse I seen AFs "Anthem" on Headbagers Ball in 89 and it changed my life to this day. I love Roger and Vinnie. The greatest HC band ever. The Godfathers of NYHC!!!!!

Jesse is a cool dude. He's only a couple years younger than me and he hits the same notes I feel. A love of music. Hardcore music. I just love the sense of community in the heavy scene

The godfathers, vinnie stiogma had a band b4 AF, i think it was called ZOO CREW, not sure though. Iron cross did the original "crucified" but AF do it better. I always enjoyed the real hardcore side of AF, rather so much than the punk side, i remember albums like somethings gotta give, and riot riot upstart, those 2 albums are not in my collection. One voice produced by legendary Don Fury is amongst the greatest hardcore records ever, cant ferger cause for alarm, and victim in pain, liberty and justice had more of a one voice style, unjited blood set it all off, that ep is going for about 400 plus dollars on ebay. Killswitch's self titled is their greatest in my view, most of those songs ended up on alive or just breathing..

I see it a bit but he’s not that young looking anymore. But Killswitch Engage does deserve one considering them being one of the earliest pioneers of Metalcore. They deserve it.

Great vid, i have great respect for people like roger, i like a/f, but i would'nt call myself a big fan, i love hearing stories from real bands, who have struggled and kept going all these years, they are more greatfull for the lives they live than those who have everything and pack stadiums.

Yeah I live now in LA and walk around 2 to 3 miles a day.too and my 3 kids live near me literally ! Moved me here out of NYC. Few years ago.Moniker via gutter punks...Love both your legends..
