Killzone - CGI Opening - Helghan Emperor Scolar Visari Speech - HD

Killzone is a first-person shooter exclusive to the PlayStation 2 game console, developed by Netherlands-based Guerrilla Games and released on November 2, 2004 in North America. An emulated version was set to be released on the PlayStation Network on January 24th, 2012 for the PlayStation 3, but it was later announced February 8th, 2012 (via Twitter) that the port has been delayed indefinitely.
The game is set in an era of space colonization where the Helghast Empire has recovered from its defeat in the First Extrasolar War and launched a blitzkrieg against the outer Interplanetary Strategic Alliance (ISA) colony planet Vekta. Vekta's orbital Strategic Defense (S.D.) platforms failed during the initial assault, allowing the Helghast to land swarms of soldiers onto the surface and making it all the more difficult for the outnumbered ISA forces.
In the game, the Helghast are a faction of human descendants who colonized the planet Helghan many generations ago. The planet's harsh environment forced the Helghast to adapt and mutate so much that they can no longer be considered human. They are stronger, faster and more resilient than their human cousins, and possess a burning hatred for humanity. Except for a small number of half-breed Helghast and trained troopers, they require a gas mask and air processing tank that creates air similar to that found on the planet Helghan. Earth, after a serious nuclear war between its nations, formed a major government of the richest surviving governments and industries to explore space colonization, eventually settling a solar system outside of Sol. Alpha Centauri is a system with two planets, the lush and blossoming Vekta, the other rich in energy supply but inhospitable; Helghan. These two planets were purchased by the Helghan Corporation after the UCN (United Colonial Nations) decided to auction them. However, after Helghast's economic policies threatened to undermine the UCN's financial system the UCN invaded Vekta and removed the Helghast after failing to impose financial sanctions. This forced the Helghast to colonize Helghan, a harsh and brutal planet, and deeply resenting the loss of the Vetka.
The player takes control of ISA Captain Jan Templar, who is desperately trying to repel the invasion. Despite the ISA's brave and valiant attempts, they continue to sustain overwhelming losses and the Helghast slowly prevail. Templar and his squad are called back to the base for reassignment. However, the ISA's headquarters is overrun by the overwhelming assault force of the swarming Helghast and a forced evacuation was conducted. Templar managed to hold off the invasion with the help of Marshal Lugar who rescued him from possible assassination in the overrun and abandoned HQ. Templar and Lugar are then sent to find the ISA operative Gregor Hakha, a half-Helghast spy who had acquired data on future Helghast movements. On their way they meet Ricardo Velasquez; another ISA soldier who had just lost his platoon to Helghast forces and had rescued them from a large platoon of Helghast soldiers with a powerful show of fury and aggression when he unsheathed fire from the shadows.
As they meet up with Hakha, the unit discovered that General Stuart Adams, a high ranking ISA officer, was a traitor. When the Earth Defense Fleet (EDF) arrived to assist the Vektan Army, Adams murdered General Vaughan and prepared an ambush for the EDF relief force. A series of climactic and epically titanic conflicts uncoil across the blood-drenched docks and other parts of Vekta as Templar's small unit of specialist soldiers help regroup ISA with strategic strikes across Vekta, helping destabilize the battle plans forged by Helghan. As the battles continue razing wildly, a frantic and despairing General Adams sees his position of power disintegrate as Helghast's main military commander, General Lente, friend of Colonel Hakha and war ally, assumes control of the invasion fleet.
During the invasion, Hakha confronted and killed Lente while the ISA unit was able to call off ECA attacks on the station. Templar and his unit managed to breach and destroy the station and Adams after subduing fanatical resistance. The battle weakened the Helghan, but their grip on the southern parts of Vekta remained unwaveringly strong and resilient as ISA forces regrouped and prepared to finally reclaim their planet.
The scenes conclude ultimately with Lugar and Captain Templar quietly discussing a potential backlash from the Helghast, and Lugar trying to rekindle an old romance possibly with Templar who consumed with anguish over Vaughton's death still, remains oblivious and focused solely on the job at hand.

Context for ppl out of the know. Helghast was a private corp who won the auction to colonize new world as the earth gov fail in their exploration. Helghast became successful, very much to the point that the government felt threatened and began sanctions, embargos, policy restrictions to bring helghast down. It when to hecc after more border disputes and thus the military stepped in to seize their planet. Helghan ppl are evicted from their home and forced a planet colony to live in a inhabitable moon. They were mistreated, angry, cornered. What for? For being better than the government that should be protecting them. 3 military ships vs planetary anti piracy force. They felt wronged. They were wronged. Now in face of a slow death on a moon with their enemy living on the planet they made habitable they have 2 choices. Die slowly or fight.

The Helghast are the bad guys of the series, and they do some bad things, but I would say they aren’t evil. They have legitimate grievances, their bodies are altered and suffer from the conditions of their home planet, which they were exiled to after a war to take Vekta. Now the Vektans keep the actually habitable world for themselves while forcing the Helghans to live on a planet they need to constantly wear gas masks on just to survive. Then later on the Vektans make Helghan worse, to the point not even the Helghast can live on it, and the surviving Helghans now have to live next door to the very people responsible for their previous and current situations. Who wouldn’t be bitter and angry about that? It doesn’t excuse their actions, but it does put them into context.

What I find best about this game is the fact it becomes really a grey area when people are confronted with things through a medium like a game. Hence such a large portion go for the Helghast side. While people think the Allies VS the Nazi's and the Allies VS the Soviets is a whole Black and White case In reality there is a whole part of history barely adressed when it comes to why the Nazi's rose to power, or why the Soviets rose to power. I honestly wish someone would make a game or a decent movie that really shows reality of something like World war 2, instead of scaremongering and hatemongering.

I remember that as a kid, I always thought the Helghasts were the bad guys. But now, It made me understood that there is not bad or good guys. Everything happening is about the perspective we see it. Helghans sees the ISA as their enemies for forcing them to live on the inhospitable planet Helghan after their first defeat and they want revenge for this suffering they endured because of them. And the ISA sees the Helghasts as their enemies because they see them as invaders trying to get their hometown (if I understood the lore good enough). And the most mind-blowing thing about the perspective stuff, is that it also applies in real life.

Fun facts, the Helghast bought the rights to colonize Vekta, but were forced off by the I.S.A. to Helgan. This game is about them trying to retake the homeworld from the I.S.A. The Templeton Institute did an in depth video on it and once you find out all the facts, it apparent who the real "bad guys" are.

Imagine having a legitimately purchased planet stolen from you and your people are subsequently exiled to a nearly uninhabitable planet only to be branded the bad guys when you try to reclaim your stolen world. Yeah, the Helghast did some bad stuff, but when you look at the grand scale of things you see it’s nothing compared to how much they’ve been wronged. Honestly the ISA are the real villains of the series. They branded the Helghast as the evil enemy when they, the Helghast, were the ones legitimately being oppressed and wronged by the ISA and Earth Gov. Looking into the lore really changes your whole perspective on the situation.

With work and struggling with food and bills my father never really played much video games when I was young but out of all the PS2 games I played this was the only one my father actually sat down for hours and enjoyed it and replayed the campaign. We did it so often that after the years went by it was having major issues and it didn’t work anymore. But just recently I surprised him with a mint condition one to jump back into and he was super excited. Such an under rated game that went into strange directions after the sequels. The first one was really ahead of it’s time back in the day.

And that's not counting the Terracide in which the ISA genocided the fuck out of Helghan, and the ISA dogs were never tried for that war crime. +Omar Jalloh That wasn't the ISA that was the VSA, the ISA equivalent of the CIA. Every VSA official who knew about the bio weapons was arrested by the ISA. The Terracide was the fault of Jorhan Stahl. The idiot fooled around with unstable weaponry. Weaponry which he was planning to unleash on the billions innocent civilians of Earth. At least the ISA involvement in the Terracide was an accident, Stahl was going to cause a Terracide ON PURPOSE. The ISA then gave HALF of Vekta to the Helghast to live on. Shadow Marshalls may harass the Helghast, but Helghast agents and special forces harass the ISA. It's called a Cold War look it up. I don't care what you say, the Vektans and Helghast are equally bad. That's the entire point of Killzone. There are no winners, only survivors.
