Lisa, I too was inspired by Audrey’s Copper Float and picked some up! You had such a stunning kiln opening. Sorry about the pin holes..the arch nemesis of all potters! Looking forward to how you fix it…Uggh! But that platter holly green and olive float! You turned me on the OF sooo gorgeous WOW!🤯 thanks for sharing and welcome back to Canada!!

Loved the noodle bowls Lisa and the leaf with olive float was one of my faves! I don’t have holly green but it’s on my list to get. I loved the copper float. I do a slow cool always, perhaps I get less crystals. Thanks for sharing, beautiful kiln opening!❤❤❤

Hi Ana, yes I am still a big slow cool fan! I think if you are layering glazes it gives you the best chance of success. You will love holly green. Such depth of color!

Love your videos and glaze combos!! I'm just a hobby potter without any professional training, so I watch a lot of pottery videos to see what tips & tricks I can learn. One tip I recently learned is that if you slow fire bisque to 04, it can help to prevent pin holing. And another coinciding tip is to slow fire on the glaze fire. So, it would seem to me that a slow cool program would fit right in with these preventive measures to prevent pin holing. Haven't tested these theories myself yet, but definitely food for thought. 🤔
@finklepottery704
@finklepottery704 5 күн бұрын
Yes those are all great tips. I do bisque to 04, and I do a slow glaze cycle. However with my kiln it seems I still need to do a slow cool for some glazes. There are other glazes that seem not to need a slow cool. I think lots of glaze layering can affect it as well. Thanks for watching!

Nice opening Lisa! The leaf plate is beautiful and so are the copper combos! I love the bowl with the funnel handle shape that you & Julia made. It reminds me of a set my mom used to have...we would always make frenchonion soup in them where you bake the cheese on top at the end 🧀 🎉

So beautiful! ... and your leafy tray! ...BEAUTIFUL! Also, really like tge wine cups and your Holly Green / RB test combo. It's lovely! Thanks Audrey. Yes I was so surprised that it wasn’t the pearl white that gave me trouble. Really, the copper float was lovely and stable. It was some of the others that didn’t like the natural cool. I haven’t given up! I see another copper float firing in my future 😊

I’m sorry you got so many pinholes. I have to tell you that I have my kiln in a shed and during the winter I run a space heater in there the entire time the kiln is on as well as when it’s cooling. It has helped so much!! I was having terrible problems with just about everything you can imagine when I ran the kiln in the winter so it really helped to have the heater in there. Even on the coldest of days, here in Iowa I can run the heater and it stays about 55 in the shed. Hope that helps. I absolutely love your leaf dish and the bowls with the handles!

Yes firing a kiln outside in cold climates is challenging. Great suggestion on the heater.

I'm so sorry about the pinholes. I've wondered myself if firing to cone 6 with the slow cool program would work. Have you heard of a potter trying it? I have a suggestion for the white ornaments. Try 2 thin coats of pearl white. PW breaks nicely on texture and has somewhat of a shein. It will cover texture if it's applied too thick. And I agree with your theory. My kilns are in the garage, more protected than yours, but the garage isn't insulated or heated. If the outside temps drop too low in winter, I won't fire until there's a warmer day.

Hey Tiffanie. I think the copperfloat is like the old ancient copper. If you slow cool it you lose the crystallization. Which is weird because slow cools promote crystallization in some glazes. Oh the crazy magic of pottery. That is an excellent idea for the pearl white. I have found that now that I slow cool I am braver about firing on a cold day because the glaze has a chance to heal over at 1900 and a natural cool works fine after that even on a really cold day.

Hi Lisa! Nice combos with power turquoise! Shame of the pinholes 😢 my last kilnopening had a lot af pinholes too! Do you put more glazes on it? And then refire? I have to find out if I can do a slow cool with my kiln, I have one more temperature after the hold so have to figure that one out❤ thank you for sharing!
@finklepottery704
@finklepottery704 5 күн бұрын
Hi Ellen yes I was actually running a slow cool right after that so I popped them back in with just a little skim of light flux on top. 🤞If you have one more ramp available on your firing schedule you can absolutely try a slow cool. You input it the same way as the others, it’s just your target temp is lower instead of higher.
@Ellen.s.atelier
@Ellen.s.atelier 5 күн бұрын
@@finklepottery704 I hope it will work out! I was just calculating everything! I cannot do two holds, only one! So I probably go a little bit lower then the Camille hofman temp and then hold for 30 minutes and then cool down with 125degrees! Let’s hope we both are lucky this time! I will put light flux on it also! Thanks for that, I will do what you do😃😁

That’s more than fair. One of the main reasons I switched to a slow cool were the Amaco celadons. It doesn’t mean that they are bad glazes. They just like a different firing schedule.

Will you be adding more water to your Power Turquoise? I just mixed a batch of Tuckers Gloss White and noticed that it was cracking before I put it in the kiln & when I unloaded it today those pieces had crawled. I’m guessing that I need to thin it out.
