The kiln that you digitized looks like it was never fired. It’s a beautiful kiln.

It is a pretty good condition unit. I think it was used less than a dozen times. There was one spot in the bricks that had a little bang damage.

You took out a tube assembly from the sitter which left a big hole what did you do to fill that as when you where closing the unit the hole was still there ?

@@dollarinhand3443 that is where the thermocouple was installed. You can buy a new brick that fits the thermocouple but I just cut a hollow tube to fill it that had an out side diameter of the existing hole and had an interior diameter of the thermocouple. I sealed it with kiln cement (outside diameter surface of the new hollow tube only - not the thermocouple)

Just replaced all of the elements in my Skutt 1027. Much harder than when I did it 20 years ago. Thinking about a controller, this video is very helpful. Did you sell your Kiln Sutter?

I am a teacher and gave the old kiln sitter to a student who was rehabbing a kiln. Yeah repurpose!

Did you have to change the elements when you did this? I'm going to try and update my kiln sitter to a digital control box but the IT at skutt said I should switch out the elements.

I did not have to change elements.. that should not matter if your elements are in good shape and you are not going with a new voltage. Elements are specific to voltage and phase.

What has me confused is I didn't see a relay or a transformer. Was a relay/transformer added?

The relays are inside of the unit from skutt, I swapped the control units out and the new unit has relays inside instead of the dials that the old kilnsitter had.

Did you buy a control box then additionally buy the touch pad?

You can buy a new control box with the touch pad already attached. Cheaper that way actually. I put a link to what I bought in the description.
