The Kilumi Dance, The dance of the spirits, the dance to appease the spirits was normally performed after sacrifice. After all was done in the shrine as the men came out of the shrine women would be waiting for a signal to begin the dance. It began with libation of beer then the dance would begin. It featured multiple whistles being blown and rapid body gyrations and use of the shoulders to dance. These particular one which we were granted permission to record had brought dancers from all over Kambaland.There was a troupe belonging to a famous Magician called Nganda from Machakos, there was Kithio Kya Muukamba from Kibwezi, Kithio kya Nzaui and solo dancers and entusiasts from Kitui and Mwingi and the Host Kithio Kya Katetani from Emali/Mulala Ward of Makueni Counnty in Kenya .For the dance to be performed there has to be a permit from the local chief - this is how Africans have come to hate their culture with the coming of foreign religions - Why seek a permit to worship? Maybe with awakening we will revert to our culture and will no longer see it as criminal to worship God in the only way we know.Welcome and enjoy.
