Some of the biggest evils live in the church. Money cannot buy class and Kim is an example of that. While speaking about finances and choices I definitely don't see her giving out scholarships, sponsorships for programs for career advancements, offering credit repair seminars, or opening Shelters. I’ve dealt with a Kim Burrell type when going to church in the past. This woman was able to say whatever she wanted about whoever no matter how disrespectful and hurtful it is. I got bullied over a zodiac tattoo. The whispering and talking about it. I kept overhearing the comments for weeks till I exploded and went off on her using language that shouldn’t be used in the church house. Everyone looked at me like I had 10 heads instead of telling her to stop being a harassing individual. I never went back to that church again.

Being black in America ( a retrospective) by Faith Thomas ( a 38 year old female who doesn’t fit the black stereotype ) Just because Egypt wasn’t built in a day doesn’t mean it cracked in the construction Imagine living in a world where because of your outer being you’re basically considered less than citizenry well guess what I don’t have to imagine it I’ve been living it for 37 years but it’s not my job to teach people outside of my race ( or even within it how to react ) why because respectfully I know they won’t listen . I was born in 1984 in Los Angeles California , during the height of the Rodney king riots where race was a big thing. Let me start with the academic stuff a young girl in 1992 ( when I was in elementary school ) I as a light skinned black kid , wasn’t afforded a race but I wasn’t afforded intellectual property either. In 1996 -1998 when I in middle school I was called white washed because ( unlike my peers ) not only was I a lot more demure in my personality but as a female I like sports and to make things worse I was diagnosed with a situation where my social skills sucked ( en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asperger_syndrome) and I didn’t make real friends until I transferred high schools at the age of 17 ( in 2003 because my parents taught me that I had to focus on my education and not worry about making friends even though they wanted me to have some ). In fact that same year 2003, I had just transferred high schools after mine had discontinued to Alexander Hamilton high school in Los Angeles , well the second semester of what would turn out to be my junior year ( I got the chance to stay an extra year ) and one day I just so happened to write a poem about the situation and showed it to a friend on the football team and he suggested I PERFORM IT IN FRONT OF OUR ENITRE CLASS for the talent show so I agree and the next night was the talent show and the day after my friends on the football team (after ambushing me the night before , completely ignore me as if they had NOTHING TO DO WITH IT). Then there was a church incident right before my sophomore year in high school , in 2002 at the behest of my grandmother it was suggested that I’d go to this church camp but it was not church it was more churlish. I was 16 at the time ( my birthday is in December ) and my maternal grandmother suggested I go to a church camp well, TWO DAYS after I get there bcoz of my tomboyish nature, I get bullied out of said camp and the staff did NOTHING to remedy the situation. Instead they made light of the situation and made it worse, but I got them back bcoz before every breakfast there were church breakout groups and each group had to do a Bible study verse and well the only person in the church with a THEATER BACKGROUND WAS ME but the damage was done and I still left that Wednesday ( I got there Sunday ). Furthermore , instead of liking shopping like most African American females do ( I wake up at 5am and don’t sleep until 9pm) , I am a HUGE SPORTS FAN ; let me abundantly clear however , the national basketball association counts as a recreation ; I’m talking about bull riding ( imagine a guy in between 110-200 pounds on a animal 1000 pounds ) , hockey , nascar, rugby and formula 1 ( the international version of nascar: think driving the fanciest car you have on the busiest street you got). That doesn’t mean I haven’t had my fair share of struggle in fact because of my autism and my aforementioned love of sports ( and my love of the creative like shows such as rupauls drag race ); I wasn’t afforded friends . In one instance, I was bullied out of a church camp for being a little more subdued from the other female campers but a little thing that brought about the artistic side of me was a bullying incident that made me question everyone part of my existence as a tomboy but I did end up having the last laugh because we ended up having to do these skits and the only person with a theater background was me but I still left because the irrepressible damage had been done. And even though educationally , I helped give my sister a leg up that didn’t stop racist incidents from occurring in fact (even though she ended up being accepted to Georgetown after I had gone to community college because I suck at math and science ) there was an incident where the administration through what I could call a racist situation thought my dad and I were there to drop of a package ( to which my dad applied “ I am …my daughter who’s late for a meeting with your administration) , and even in spite of that she got into Georgetown but my parents insisted she go to Loyola Marymount where she got a degree in graphic design. All this to say if it weren’t for what I’ve been through I wouldn’t be able to be as strong as I am

What Kim was looking down on and talking down on is some people's best!! Generational trauma, generational secrets, housing and food insecurities, disparities and disproportionate health care can cause some the things that she downed people about. It's not nice! Some people are in places in life because they made bad choices! Some people cannot help where they are! Humility is free!!

i was employed by a megachurch for several years and my experience behind the scenes showed me that some “saved” folk are some of the worst individuals. There is a posturing that you see and it is very elitist. There are also cliques in the church community. If you didnt grow up in the church, have some level of celebrity behind your name (actor, singer or politician or relative of theirs) or know the right people, then you are kept at an arms length. People like Kim (men and women) sit around choir rehearsal and bible study and judge those outside of the clique but they do it tongue in cheek and say it “with the love of the lord” to justify their words. I have heard words like the “saints” and the ”aints” which crystalized my view of exactly how some of the top levels of the black church community view people. Not all saved folk are like this but a lot are and just like any organization behaviors are top down. I recall a particular Sunday Creflo Dollar was a guest speaker and started his presentation off with talking about how he was no ordinary man because how many people in the room could say they showed up to service by private jet. Yes its top down, and If top leaders openly had a negative view of these behaviors and actions you wouldn’t see it but they are all part of the same culture. This kind of stuff happens behind the scenes Kim just had the audacity to say it out loud into a microphone.

He would DRAG single mothers knowing he secretly had a child out of wedlock that was being raised by their single mother. The lgbtq members that would attend, were also singled out and shamed! Everyone knew who he was targeting when he targeted them. My mother was a single mother so he hated us. Told me to my face I'd end up a teen mother, accosted me from the pulpit SEVERAL times. Y'all, I was 15/16!!! I got to the point I started talking shit back to him from the pews. No adult stood up to him, not even my mother. But I went toe to toe with that crazy man. I had to tell my mom that if she didn't get me out of that church, I was surely going to hell because of the negative thoughts I had about him every time he took the pulpit! She's the type that will have someone about to enter the church- turn around. She wasn't very nice on Sunday Best either. As someone who has been in close contact with an individual with highly similar behavior, this is related to self confidence issues. People like her tear people down, because they feel so restricted being their TRUE selves. So they police other people's behaviors and mannerisms solely because they "cant" be themselves either. They place religion as an end all in their lives and it disturbs their spirit that they cant LIVE as everyone else. She chose that path for herself, so she has to live with it. 🤷🏾♀️ in a corner, rich, low self esteem, and unhappy.

I agree with your point of view. As Christians, the world watches us and looks to the Church as lights. That light is supposed to draw souls to Christ and God gets the glory. If we pick up traits and characteristics that are not Christ-like, it dims that light and deters souls from coming. Lord, help us to get our houses in order and win souls for you before it's too late.🙏🏾

If I were to be completely honest initially I was unbothered by what she was saying and didn’t think much about how she said it. I guess I was just used to her. But, after hearing the outcry of so many people that I love and admire say how offended and wounded they were my very own heart ached for them and was remorseful. Funky, you shed a different light on this situation wherein I placed myself. Bloggers like you who cause people to think and reflect without being attacked is what fuels real change.. Thank you sir… Immediate follow!

All I have to say is, learn to think for yourself and don't be a FOLLOWER of other people's opinions, FIX THAT IN YOURSELF. WHY weren't you initially bothered by what she said and how she said it? It was trifling and very nasty, very noticeable. If your excuse is "I guess I was just used to her" that might be something you need to look at, what is excusable you and what you're "used to"

As someone who was raised in the church the older I get I focus more on my relationship with God not religion and church because it’s truly a business and a lot of people at the top go unchecked for their actions

Same! I’m not religious I have relationship and that’s the huge difference. People like her are turning most , especially young people l, away from God.

Maybe I’m downsizing, the kids are gone and I am now living my life in a tiny house so I can do what I want when I want without a bunch of bills.

I grew up in the church and this type of behavior goes on a lot within the church. I no longer go to church nor identify with christianity. Even now, with all the trauma I can't even listen to gospel at all. It's very disturbing behavior she is displaying and it's garbage af. Another thing, why do avid churchgoers make religion a personality trait!?

@@brittyh428 it was the same for me. That's mainly the reason why I avoid anything to do with religion in general, but I needed to see multiple sides on how many people felt about what she said.

@@SuperDonn19 I know a lot of people who feel the same.....I sure do. I made my relationship with God a personal one and I don't frequent too many people that follow "the church lifestyle"

I only pray you not allow others to determine your walk with God, search for yourself and just become a better example of what this world needs of a true Christian .. 🙏🏽❤️ God has a calling on your life and walking away from it is the biggest trick of the devil . Don’t know you but I felt the need to respond . ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️

I haven’t been to church in almost a decade and I don’t feel bad one bit for it. I went to church to fellowship with other women because I had a lot going on and I wasn’t very happy with the lifestyle I was living. All I got was judgement , attacks , and belittled even from my brother who is a pastor. I’m done with all them.

I'm church folk. I totally agree with your entire assessment of this situation as well as your question about the church culture that tolerates these shenanigans from church leaders.

You know people don’t even use common sense. How you blame an attorney for the letter that didn’t “convey” anytime I get a letter from an attorney, my assistant or anywhere that represents me, I review and revise to CONVEY what I want to say! She’s a coward! You said what she said. She’s been talking ugly since 2001 just mean. Also… who posted the apology SHE or the ATTORNEY? I’m so disappointed-you’ve spoken well on this one

Tell the Truth and Shame the Devil...It's Shameful how she behaves!!!! That's why ppl that are not saved do not trust church goers and turn away from the church because of the hypocrites that put others down when they should be praying for them and lifting them up in the name of Jesus....Just Shameful!!!
