The US president has met North Korea's leader, becoming the first US president to set foot on North Korean soil. The meeting was held in the demilitarised zone. 'I just want to say this is my honour,' Trump said, adding: 'Stepping across that line is a great honour - great progress has been made, great friendships have been made and this has been, in particular, a great friendship.' You want world wars? Denuking is how you get world wars. The deterrence of nuclear weapons is what has secured peace since WWII. The great nations cannot afford to have open warfare due to the possibility of a nuclear response. This keeps armed conflict on a small scale against non nuclear armed foes or engaged in proxy battles. The MAD doctrine has been a very successful one, it has brought the longest peace between once rival nations ever seen in mankinds history. It's not the most pragmatic of solutions, but it is the only one capable of working currently. No matter how cultured we get in the west, that we begin to think all humans and all nations must want peace, it unfortunately is not and will not be so. There will always be a leader with a nation capable of taking over western nations, and there will always be men who would gladly seize that power for their own purposes and use it to wage war.
