Of all of those, The Witcher 3 is the most surprising omission, since the list features GTA5, Sleeping Dogs and Arkham City. All these are 3rd persion open world games that scratch the same itch, but TW3 is on a league of its own. I really hate the sociopaths and edgy characters of the GTA series, but I fell in love with the characters of The Witcher series.

Bullet Heaven 2 is a game that would be in my top 20 probably. It's an awesome 2D bullet hell shooter that you control with your mouse, it's easy enough to be played by anyone and it has enough difficulty settings that you can make it damn near impossible. The story is fun, if a little childish (a rare thing for a shmup). The patterns, even on the highest difficulty, can always be worked out even if you don't have the dexterity to actually follow them.
@destroyerbreaker73945 жыл бұрын
Haven't really played Bullet Heaven 2, but get a like for just recommending a Shmup, always nice seeing a niche genre getting such love, as for me, ZeroRanger would be a big pick for me even if there are other great games released during the last decade in this genre.

Since I've played very few games in the 2010's I'd be very surprised if i played 5 games on this entire list. I've pretty much stuck to playing older games because its what I feel the most comfortable with, but it would be nice to see which games out of these 50 would have my interest in playing if I ever get around to playing them, so let's see what the best radio voice in all of the gaming youtube sphere has to say about the 50 best games in the 2010's. 46.) Freedom planet. It just has that beautiful anime style 2d platforming action that would come out of the ps1 era and sega saturn era and something I would love to give a try. 43.) Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed. I've seen so much amazing gameplay for this game, and I think this game has the potential of even being better than the mario kart series. The tracks look so interactive and the gameplay looks incredibly tight and I would love to go it a try. 40.) Sonic Mania. I love 2D sonic games and for them to put out a game like was long overdue and I'm glad it lived up to and exceeded everybody's expectations. 37.) Cuphead. This is a game that I would love to try because I grew up loving this animation style and I do love the fact of how difficult the game is but its a sense of fair transitional difficulty which is one of the aspects I love about difficult games is finding that essence of true transitional difficulty and I think this game succeeds at that. 15.) Undertale. I do have a lot of interest with regards to playing this game, but i haven't got around to it because of its militant and obnoxious fanbase has kind of kept me from playing it to be perfectly honest. People have said its one of the best new rpg's to have come out in a very long time but despite knowing a lot of what the game is about, I think I'm just looking forward to the gameplay because I think from an emotional point of view the game is not going to do much for me. 10.) Shovel Knight. We finally got to a game that I have played and completed to 100%. I really loved this game right from the beginning to the end and I took the time to do everything I can in this game because I did enjoy it so much. I haven't played of the alternative storylines from this title because i would rather see them move on to different project then try to milk out the shovel knight universe as much as possible but in the world of video games you have to stick with what is going to give your company profits. 8.) Hotline Miami. A game that I still haven't played but with Drive (2011) being one of my top 5 films of all time it goes give me this strong desire to play it because of its colour scheme, violent gameplay, excellent music, and a great sense of transitional difficulty. Maybe one of those days I will get around to it eventually. Well at least I played one game out of the 50 mentioned, and who knows maybe within the next ten years I can finally give these titles a try that have my interest the most.

I experienced something of a gaming lull between about 2002 and 2007/08, where I had xbox consoles but didn't follow the industry, didn't knmow about the controversies, what the great games were etc. I played games as a casual, essentially, and I managed to miss the Hitman games entirely UNTIL Absolution. I therefore had, and STILL have, no reference point from which to base a comparison for Absolution. With that said, Absolution being my entry point to the series, I didn't think it was a steaming turd, far from it. I thought it was not fan-bloody-tastic, but I thought it was nice looking for the time and had gameplay and sneak mechanics that were novel to me at the time, and yeah. I thought the game was good. I'm sorry I missed the earlier ones now, maybe I can emulate them on PCSX2 or that PS3 emulator.
@iwanttocomplain5 жыл бұрын
I only ever played Absolution, too. Probably because it was on sale for £2 or something. But that game wowed me with it's environmental design. It was ridiculously violent and was more like Rambo than an assassin game. But you know what really impressed me? it ran silky smooth with NO GRAPHICS CARD AT ALL! Yes (actually there is a little 3d co-pro in my mobo I since learned). But it ran at 60fps with no frame drops in 640x480 resolution and no aliasing but that's my favourite res anyway. IO are programming legends (formerly Zyrinx). Dirt 2 also ran like a dream with no gpu so biggups to Codemasters too.

I agree with lots of your picks except for the 1st one. For me, Enter The Gungeon made Isaac obsolete. I just think it's a better game overall, and I like the tone better. I find the subject matter of Isaac highly disturbing (I know it's the point). A baby that is being chased by his own mother that wants to kill him and is absolutely terrified? No thanks. I've been playing games every since the mid 80s, and played many horror games since then (And I love horror movies), but The Binding of Isaac was the first and only game that gave me a nightmare, and one of the most terryfying I've ever had. My wife had to wake me up, while I was screaming. If that was McMillen's goal, then that's a job well done:)

My beef with Enter The Gungeon is the pace is rather slow for the first couple of levels. I preferred something like Nuclear Throne that ramps up faster. If you're on a bad run it's nice to know quickly so you don't have to play through a boring first 5 minutes.

I also played Tomb Raider 2013 without having played any Uncharted game. I did eventually play all 6 of them (Including the Vita one) much later, well after playing Rise Of the Tomb Raider. Since Shadow Of The Tomb Raider was going to be years off I needed something similar to fill a void and I will tell you right here, Uncharted isn't a patch on TR. Not one bit. I enjoyed the cliche story line and characters (enough to have played 6 whole games) but the game play, what little there is of it, is simply boring and unimaginative. I feel like if I had played them before TR, I would have enjoyed them far more but TR's open world and exploration mechanics spoiled me so much that the extremely linear style of Uncharted just didn't come close to filling that TR void. On a second note, Portal 2 would also be swimming in the top 5 pool somewhere for me too and without any hope of a third instalment from Valve I urge you and I urge everyone reading this, to play Talos Principle. Talos Principle for me would also be in that top 5 and I could even consider putting it above Portal 2. It's undoubtedly one of my all time favourite games. So much so that i'm currently on my 5th play through. I replay the game every time it gets ported somewhere else just for the excuse to experience it all over again. PS4, PC, iOS, PC VR and now i'm onto the recent Xbox One port which is included with Game Pass if you're a subscriber. It's just been released on Switch too, so not only will I most likely be playing it a 6th time somewhere down the line, there is absolutely no excuse for anyone not to play it. There is a great DLC pack for even more of it which I believe is included with all versions of the game except the PC version and it has a promised sequel coming next year.
@BenRai2k5 жыл бұрын
Obviously your opinion, though I have to disagree with you about Uncharted not being a patch on the new TR's. The new TR games, especially the second one felt very very samey throughout with the ice and snow setting. The side characters as well are not very interesting or charming. TR and Rise felt very the same in general, where as Uc1 and 2's leaps were very significant. Uncharted 1 has aged the worst of them all though. As for Uncharted being a more linear experience, i never had an issue with that. Since being too open of a world vastly can impact the story and characters, and make things not seem very urgent. Which is probably why the characters felt rather 2D in TR - you could just be out alone exploring an open world for ages and honestly it got kind of boring with the settings often looking so similar . Personally, I found the Uncharted games to hold the crown of modern adventuring games, but Tomb Raider anniversary is still the best Tomb Raider to me. If you want to compare Tomb Raider to a game it i better compared to Horizon Zero Dawn with its open world and crafting, - which I also find vastly much more interesting and enjoyable than Tomb Raider.
@AdamKeyz5 жыл бұрын
There is definitely a strong element of personal preference to this. To me, the idea of being able to just abandon the story when I get a little bored of it and go explore a tomb or hidden areas and find secrets then go back to the story when I'm good an ready makes the game far more interesting and enjoyable to me. Like I said, I really enjoyed the stories and character development across the Uncharted series, my gripe is that's all they had, the gameplay surrounding it was repetitive and boring to the point that it would have just been better as a movie franchise perhaps. If there was something else to do once in a while to detract from that I would have enjoyed them a lot more. The real difference here is that I prefer a game like this to be a game, something that I can play in my own way and in my own time. Make it up as I go along to an extent and have a somewhat unique experience. Uncharted felt like a good movie where I just had to press a few buttons from time to time in order to get to the next scene. TR had optional missions and journeys, items to find, extracts to read that made the world feel more fleshed out. TR gave me the ability to discover the story and the background on my own where as Uncharted just delivered it on a plate. Uncharted and TR will always be compared to each other because of the Indiana Jones inspired treasure hunter base that they're both built on regardless of how different the gameplay between them is.
@BenRai2k5 жыл бұрын
@@AdamKeyz Interesting you say that you prefer a game to be a game, when Tomb Raider most certainly took a more cinematic route to keep up to pace with Uncharted and was more jam packed with cut-scenes and QTE's than it ever has been. In fact TR had more QTE in it than Uncharted. I also found the more linear aspects in Uncharted to provide more interesting gameplay than TR, as I say, because I don't think being open world especially really equals gameplay. Roaming around a largely similar looking area to open a crate from 2 hours ago to get a gun mod, is not really great fun to me. I was bored of breath of the Wild for that reason - a large world to roam around in great - but there really was nothing to accomplish. Nothing really exciting to find. Previous Zelda's which were more contained were much more interesting. Unless unlike in Horizon, I know there will be something interesting or exciting to see in the landscape or enemy wise. Uncharted 1 totally has repetitive gameplay, it was climb a bit, shoot enemies, climb a bit, shoot enemies. I do know some people love massively fleshed out worlds, with endless texts to find and read - but to me, that isn't gameplay either and just a huge time sink. Uncharted never really claimed to be anything other than an action adventure movie you can play. I can see why as someone who seems to favour open worlds you'd opt for TR for sure, but OW and crafting has been done to death at the time of TR release, and there is nothing wrong at all with more linear experiences. Though as I say, we all have preferences and opinions so itsi interesting to hear what people think. But to say Uncharted isn't a patch on TR, is totally wrong.
@AdamKeyz5 жыл бұрын
It's not 'wrong' per se, it's just my opinion. I didn't get anywhere near as much enjoyment out of Uncharted than I did with TR, so for me Uncharted wasn't a patch on TR. I'm not knocking all linear experiences, they have their place but in a game based on raiding, exploration and treasure hunting, TR's open world approach seemed the best fit for me. I don't know what the exact numbers are on cut scenes and QTE's for each game on either side, but Uncharted felt like it had more and perhaps that was due to it's linear play and this also might have added to it being boring for me. The open world exploration of TR meant that I could spend time doing other things not just the story so even if it did have more QTE's than Uncharted, they were so far apart time wise for me that it didn't spoil the experience at all.
