Ms. Alice Johnson, a grandmother serving a mandatory life sentence without parole for a first-time, nonviolent drug felony, received a presidential pardon after almost 22 years behind bars. She was granted clemency by President Trump on June 16, 2018, following Kim Kardashian West’s advocacy for her release, elevating Alice’s story and lobbying the White House to grant her freedom.
Determined not to allow a life sentence to be the sum of who she was, Alice has become the face of a broken criminal justice system (and the need to fix it), and her passionate fight for the freedom of others has become a beacon of hope for those who remain incarcerated.
Kim and Alice will join us to discuss the issue of mass incarceration and the urgent need for reform -- and share how Google played a part in Alice Johnson’s journey to freedom.
