From what I understand they also wear medals of their fathers and grandfathers. So some of their medals could actually be 1950's Korean War metals that were awarded to their grandfathers who saw actual combat.

The west doesn't threaten North Korea. North Korea threatens the west all the tine. at all. It's a nuclear state and the west know better than to mess with countries that have nukes especially if they're not sitting on a massive oil reserve. North Korea has no value and is too dangerous to mess with. That's why we invaded Iraq. We knew full well they had no weapons that could pose a direct risk to the west and they also sat on one of the largest oil reserves on earth. Yes Saddam Hussein was a nasty piece of work but he kept the country stable and was no threat to the west himself. Now that whole region is rampant with extremist groups that most certainly do pose a threat to the west. I certainly wouldn't say the west came out on top unless the only goal there was a few barrels of oil and if they can't succeed against against a few dozen camel farmers what chance do they have against North Korea. The only way nuclear states mess with each other is by starting proxy wars in non nuclear countries like Ukraine like Russia did.
