Even today, 30 years later this album sounds awesome! A clean cut and straightforward narratives about self search, love, relationships , personal and economical struggle. Kim’s voice is wonderful and this album always had this dark, raw sound to it which makes it utterly enigmatic. The best song on this album is the single “Take me tonight” - one of my all time Kim Wilde favorites.

View From A Bridge - my favourite song of Kim's, so dark and dramatic.

I'm glad I checked this album out months ago, as all 10 songs are very enjoyable after first listen. I like the sound more than on the first album, it's much more electronic (but still has that new wave feeling that I love), and everything sounds icy and frosty, the atmosphere, the sound, the instruments, even Kim's voice often sounds chilly. It feels almost like as if it's snowing in my earphones. Favourite songs are Just A Feeling and Cambodia (Reprise).

Select was ahead of it's time. Two big hit singles that were top ten/twenty in lots of countries. I would've replaced Can You Come Over with something more electronic sounding like most of the cd otherwise there is a lot of great songwriting and arrangements on Select.

Great album, and yes, it does seem cold and icy, even here in Florida! Kim's music is rather elusive here in the States, so I had to pay $36.00 for Select on cd back in 1993! It was well worth it though.

Rbo SMF, I agree with most of your comments, although I lost interest in Kim's music after 1987/88. Most singles and albums after 1988 are quite mediocre to put it mildly. There are several notable exceptions like 'Kids In America' 94, 'Loved' and the track Kim recorded with Nena, and a few others. I hate to say this but Kim should have retired a few years ago (much like other 80s stars)

"Take me tonight" is truly a pearl in the crown of her album. New Wave's masterpiece...

@Rbo SMF Yeah, like that line too :) That's a simple, very sweet and innocent-sounding record. "Select" is the only album of Kim from which i love all of the tracks included on it.

@Rbo SMF The only thing I'm waitin' for now are re-reissues of Kim's work from RAK archives. CherryPop is mentioning about some tracks which have never been released :) . I've asked them recently about possible time of premiere, it's somewhere around early 2019 they think. So this is the thing that would make my 2019 :) There you go: facebook.com/1382783478624603/posts/2083947795174831/

@Rbo SMF It goes without saying that she looks there like a real woman, have never had any doubts about Kim in that aspect. I mean she's so classy and astonishing that you fall for her from the first sight. Like she's my definition of beauty. 12" version of "The Touch" is a music passion for every synth-fan. Very well arranged extended version, not overdosed or overfilled with repetitive sounds.

I still remember when I bought this album. I had a big poster of Kim on the wall in my room. I once had a chance to sit beside Kim :) in Bremen 1994 for couple minutes, as me and some other fans had waited half an hour to meet her . Sadly I had no camera with me - just nice memories. sigh!! :) I still have the songs list of the concert left ...

@Rbo SMF Except the fact she was 21 while recording this album, her voice, her look, her personality, her soul, her world's perspective stopped on the age of 15-16 i presume. That awareness of it adds only more of delightful atmosphere and young girl's passion to literally every track featured on "Select". And when u add to it your own imagination and vision of Kim and pour it with a bit of nostalgia about the epoque, you can't forget about her. That's why i love coming back every time to her music and many other's artists from that period. Like she's the only artist which simply intimidates me with everything...

I like most of the tracks on the album now, even though I was a bit disappointed when I heard it first. My favorite are the singles "View From A Bridge" and "Cambodia". 'Just A Feeling' and 'Wendy Said' are very boring but still better than Kim's recent stuff (which is TERRIBLE)

It's Wendy Sadd NOT Said Lost in the night, out on the streets And blown into the wind She was just heading for trouble When they got her downstairsCut by the lights, strands of her hair Just tumble from her cheeks She's just another Caucasian in a crime worn dayInside her heart was breaking No-one knew what she'd been through Inside her mind's escaping To a world that no-one knewLost in the night, somebody said go easy on the girl You'll never get a confession If you treat her that way Two pairs of eyes shout at her face and late into the night They heard a softer whisper saying "Let me go"Inside her heart was breaking No-one knew what she'd been through Inside her mind's escaping To a world that no-one knewWendy sadd has flown away Wendy found her freedom
