If using SQL Server, use a common table expression. CTE. Recursion and RDBMS aren’t friends. Otherwise, you’re going to need an additional table to represent the relationship.

You only mention the star schema, not the snowflake or the cube. Might want to look into that. Voice quality neeeds work.
