Yep, that has me wondering as well - for .45 it's a thicc grip for only 3 more rounds compared to a regular 1911 with a 10 rounder (I'm a CMC guy) and the magazine sticks out the same length. In 9mm the capacity increase seems with it.

I literally have been looking at a Jacob gray “2011” or the Romulus. I said to myself just yesterday, “why can’t someone make this in a .45acp”. I have ammo left over from my XDS that I’ve gotten rid of and I don’t need another 9mm. I know rock island has the DS, but no optics cut…… and here comes Kimber!

The finish with the scratch on the left muzzle flat that "will resist scratches". Fortunately, someone noticed the irony at at 4:30 mintues, the scratch was 'helped' out of the video. Reminds me of the S&W M&P 10mm that was the best thing since sliced bread, ecept that mine could not be made to feed reliably.

@@ldaniel5915 Truthfully, I'm more usinjg the flaw shown in the finish as he is reciting factory talking points about the durable finish as an excuse to refer back to Scotch's glowing review about the S&W M&P 10mm that he found to be excellent, despite many reports of problems with this gun at that time. Based on his review, I purchased two. Both conintue to jam despite having been back to the factory twice for servicing, replacing mags, trying different high end ammo, etc.

Due to the taper of the mag, I’m guessing that’s why it’s only 13+1. Para Ordnance based pistols hold 14 in a shorter magazine. A mag that length should hold at least 15 but the taper starting where it does, that’s the limiting factor.

Great to see Kimber moving forward with the 45 ACP. I have a double-stack 45 2011 but I had to have it custom built because no one was/is doing them. The video isn't over at the point I am writing this, but I REALLY wish they did NOT HAVE a LCI. It just really dirties an optic and isn't needed IMHO. Otherwise looking nice

Only gripes I have right out of the box with this amazing new pistol is the slide serrations look rather shallowly machined into it and that magazine hangs wayyyy down out of the bottom of the magazine well for my liking. I would totally run this blaster with some custom cut grip tape inlayed into the serrations, install a RMR HD on the optic plate, and run the Target model's extended magwell or one rather similar to it so the magazine basepad area sticking down looks more integrated into the grip itself... likely get the black colored version in 9MM since I have 9MM pistols already. Nuff said.

Love that other manufacturers are stepping up the plate for DS offerings, however 2K for a MIM-Ber or for another $400 a Staccato P with gunsmith fit barrel and all billet parts is still apples to oranges by comparison. The .45 acp chambering and aluminum frame does get a double thumbs up.

They've done .45 2011s ever since they were released. The recent problem has been getting Checkmate to make .45 magazines. Otherwise, your options were old STI magazines that needed the user to "tune" in order to kinda work or spend $100+ on MBX magazines. Thankfully, Kimber is big enough to make Checkmate to start making .45 magazines again.

I notice quite a few nicks and scratches in the finish, both on the DLC on the slide and in the anodizing on the frame. I know that if you're going to shoot them regularly that they are going to get roughed up a bit, but I wonder how they will look in a year or two. The gap between the mag and grip also bugs me a lot.

How to break that gun down with the toolless guide rod. Pull slide back, engage the catch at the front of the guide rod. This takes the tension out of the spring. Push the slide forward so the notch on the slide matches the bump on the slide stop. Push the slide stop out. It's super easy now because there's no tension on the spring. Push the slide forward, remove the toolless guide rod, push the barrel out. Clean. Reassembly. Place the barrel in the slide. Insert toolless guide rod. DO NOT LET THE SPRING GO BACK. Place slide back on. You should see the link. Since there's no tension, it's easy to put the slide stop back in. Release the spring and it's done.

The mag sticking out that far for a 13rd is ridiculous. Especially as other reviewers have stated you can load that mag to 15rds. If that was a flush fit 13rd I'd say it would be a perfect addition as a DS 45 is something we haven't seen since the Para days.

If they didn't do that, it would be a 10 round capacity. That's a limitation that can't be worked around...probably due to the nature of the top of the mag (it narrows). The limitation is the ammo (45ACP).

Interesting factory work on the stripper rail seen at 15:22. Generally you only see gunsmiths cut an angle like that into it with hand filing to let the slide glide over the disconnector more smoothly. I’m not sure why this isn’t universal with higher end 2011’s. I’m surprised you didn’t discuss it a bit.

I spotted that also, had to rewind and pause - Marvel cut! He mentioned the slide running smooth without the obvious lurch from the disco, but didn't really get into the technical side of that.

Don, can you lock (and unlock) the recoil spring (ie make the quarter turn with the guide rod) with the slide still on the frame ? Like the Dawson system ? That way you're not under spring tension while removing or installing the take-down pin ?

Wish they would have put a window behind the serrations so I can see that gorgeous barrel more Or hopefully theyll make a target version of black too, with the lightening cuts. and bronze that hammer on the black version like the barrel And make both option's in 4.25 commander length

QUESTION; DOES THIS GUN SHOOT +P AS IS OR WILL IT REQUIRE A DIFFERENT SPRING. I LOVE MY 30S HAS A DOUBLE RECOIL SPRING WHICH COMES IN SOO SWEET WITH MY DOUBLE TAP 185GR JHP AT 1200FPS, 600FT. LBS I'M ASSUMING ITS NOT GOING TO SHOOT THE +P WITHOUT THE HEAVIER RECOIL SPRING BUT I NEED TO KNOW FOR SURE ONE WAY OR ANOTHER.

Greta video sootch always love the content. Kimber makes beautiful firearms but I just wished the function matched to appearance. Why not make the mag seat in the grip, it looks terrible for the factory mags to hang out like that.

Does it have a marvel cut? Wonder how they get it smooth. Should have kept watching. It does. About time. I usually have to do my own.

I just don't get what the big fuss is about double stack 1911's, or "2011"...whatever you want to call them. Para Ordnance developed the concept decades ago, but it never quite took off. Now they're all the rage. Unbelievable.

Good to see that Kimber are back in the business of double-stack 45 ACP pistols, but i know that this gun is very expensive.

It's not super expensive for a 2011, especially considering all the features it has, and especially with the 45ACP offering - mainstream 2011 makers aren't doing 2011s in 45ACP.

Very cool to see a new 2011 in .45 ACP. I have to say I just don't see the reasoning for a 9mm 1911 (2011), but to each their own. As others have mentioned I think the gap showing on the magazine looks terrible. I would hope maybe there's a flush fit 10 round mag coming or something. Just looks like the mag isn't seated. Be interesting to see other reviews and how the reliability is.
@unixfool
@unixfool Сағат бұрын
That's a limitation solely related to the fact that the ammo is 45ACP. Designing a 10 round mag just to not be OCD-triggered is a bit wild when you can just add a mag well. About your 9mm comment, choice is always good. 9mm is the common/default offering with 2011s. The fact that Kimber did this in 45ACP is great...they're pretty much the only production gun maker that are currently chambering their 2011 in 45ACP.
