Oh what a beautiful way to teach the art of listening, awareness, and teamwork through music and rhythm. A plus factor.... You've got a soothing voice and superb vocals Nick Holland.

Wow. this is a mix of inspiring and horrifying... And an amazing job of teaching and classroom development! I was inspired by the use of trance-inducing melody and the entrainment of the children. Amazing. Such a superpower tool. This is a tool ike propaganda: it can be used to many different ends. However the use of the "teacher in the tie" uniform -- it's an entrainment of the "children" (little workers) to respect authority that uses ties. It points directly to the roots of public school in the industrial class society England. And of course the whole industrial school model continues to horrify me. The little black kid? Had ALL the rhythm right after they entered the room about 2 minutes in! And my reflection: I feel the insidious presence of white euro culture in this pedagogy strongly. The melody, the timing, the rhythm... all very "Hansel and Gretel". 'Lil black kid was bustin a move (and it certainly didn't fit the euro-clapping-metronome style work of the classroom). My "takeaway" of that little moment was a speculation around the possibility of the deep ancestral or cultural rhythmic nature of that little kid (and the different particular cultural zeitgeist of the western euro classroom). And he's also the one "most disciplined" by the teacher in the 1st 1/2 of the video (that I"ve watched so far). I don't blame the teacher but I do fault the whole tragic (and totalitarian) cultural context of the whole system he's working from and within. Just begs some deep questions around culture -- of both the child and of course of the whole institution of euro-based class-driven schooling. INSPIRING: The teacher (underneath the "overseer" corporate conformist uniform; underneath the euro-conforming oppressive enculturation of the setting and system, claps and rhythm) seems inspired, and carries joy in the teaching. And "captures" the children -- That is important and that can be magical. TAKEAWAY: I'll perhaps use some of the pedagogy from this with my own preschoolers -- as well as reflecting on ways to open us up from oppressive systemic enculturation. Thanks for posting.

Great class you led. You got the kids engaged and even combined the songs together. Very effective teaching. Do you know the name of the last you sang for the kids, very dramatic. I couldn't find the lyrics for it. Appreciated if you could share it. Good voice by the way.

Hi Nick! I am an elementary music teacher in NJ. I was just wondering what kind of Smart Board programs you use? I love all of your clear fun ways to teach the kids. I wasn't sure if you drew that up yourself or if you edited into a program! Thank you so much!
