The Mandolin Banjo was used in jazz in order to cut through the horns.

Bill Monroe popularized the F Style Mandolin

Hi, can you tell me what type of mandolin that is on your far right (my far left if if I am looking at the screen)? It's the F-style with the oval hole. I love the looks of it. I need the brand, model, etc. Thanks!

What is the best wood for mandolin ,back and top
@jjmuni3 жыл бұрын
Usually the top is made of spruce from which Adirondack May be the best, for back and sides maple is the preferred wood for it’s bright overtones adding to the thing. Same woods that are used for the violin group of instruments.

Good to know… thank you… Trying to find the right Mandolin… The one I am borrowing is a flat back but looks like the rounded back one… I kind of want one a little lower/deeper

Are F styles's scale longer?
@robertpaulson28427 жыл бұрын
Same scale. I play an A style, but the scale length is the same. The longer scale is a mandola, equivalent to a viola (as a mandolin is equivalent to a violin).

Thanks, Robert :) But what I really want to know is if bluegrass mandolins have a longer scale than classical/italian mandolins. Thank you.

They are joined to the body at the 14th fret instead of the 12th.

Generally, bowlbacks have about a 13inch scale (violin scale) and A, F, and flat backs have about a 13 and 3/4ths scale.
