Denis - you were an inspiration to me as a teenage pianist! I used to listen to you on the radio with Barry Cryer, Bill Oddie etc ("I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again"..?). I remember one of your count-ins "one, two, straight down the corridor" I think the tune was "Some Carrots For My Lady". I still have the cassette recording of that show! Also there was a Marty Feldman album I believe you did some arranging and playing on. Such brilliant stuff. I always thought you had the best gig - a pianist working with comedy greats and a sprinkling of jazz thrown in. I went on to play professionally (now living in Los Angeles) and I've worked with some great comedians like Mel Brooks, Seth MacFarlane, Neil Innes and Rik Mayall. I hope you get a chance to read this, because I've always wanted to thank you! Cheers and all the best to you - Richard. 🍻

Dear Richard Thanks for your kind comments. They were fun times though it all seems so long ago. With the death of Barry Cryer earlier this year there is only me left from the jolly group I’m sad to say. Still there are recordings of the radio shows available along with a couple of album of Hello Cheeky if you’re desperate! In the meantime my best to you. DK

@@deniskingmusichappy days.... Can you still remember how to belt those tunes out? I was watching you guys earlier here on KZbin, performing 6-5 Jive from the 6-5 Special. The 6-5 Special must have been a great experience. I got to know Don Lang through working in the same place as his sister in law. I saw him and The Frantic 5 play numerous times in the 80's. I saw Vince Eager play, Terry Dene, Wee Willie Harris, the Dallas Boys, the Vernon's Girls.....as well as dozens of original Rock n roll and Rockabilly stars from America

Nice song, love 50's/early 60's music. One of my favourite songs/performances is a video on KZbin with you three (pretty sure it is you three, lol) and Frankie Vaughan singing well alright, okay, you win from 1959. A great number which I can’t find anywhere else but on KZbin.

I believe I saw your brother Mike on TV a couple of days ago. Barry Cryer was a panelist on an episode of "Would I Lie To You?" that was being repeated on one of those Freeview channels of which nobody can remember the name. A mystery guest came onto the set and Barry and two others had to claim he was a friend of the guest. The other panel/team had to guess who was being truthful. Barry claimed that Mike had visited him in hospital at some point along with his two brothers Tony and Denis. Although the other team guessed correctly, I don't think anyone on the panels realised who Mike really was.

Yes, Mike did appear on that show--when I turned them down!
