The goverment's initial idea was to turn Sweden into a republic. King Gustaf VI Adolf actually signed a bill to investigate a possible transition into republic. However, this met a lot of resistance in the general public, so a compromise was chosen instead. The monarchy would continue, but stripped of all it's constitutional powers. The King is just a mascot.

@Divedown_252 жыл бұрын
You're quite right here The Parliament House was constructed between 1897 and 1905, however there are actually two buildings next to each others connected with a walking bridge. The two buildings of the complex were originally constructed to house the bicameral Swedish parliament in one of the buildings and the Swedish National Bank in the second having a semicircular shape. After the bicameral parliament was replaced by a unicameral legislature in 1971, and the bank relocated, the building housing the bank was rebuilt to house the new Assembly Hall, glass windows high up at the walls were added and the Assembly Hall was given the modern touch, or as you say looking like a University lecture hall.

He recieves ambassadors from other countries, and also signs the letters for all ambassadors Sweden send abroad.

How can we have heredity rule in this day and age. I like that in Monarchies the head of state is above the cesspool of politics, however we don’t need a ruler arriving in gold lined carriages with those who did nothing to deserve being there apart from be born into the right family. Sweden, Australia, UK, etc… should elect or appoint a prominent citizen who has done something to further the nation or humanity.

8 of the most democratic countries are monarchies and Sweden is one of them, its better than those thieving politicians that are elected to steal from government offices and the citizens. Republicanism is a half failed system Plus monarchy doesn't divide its people like political parties do. Monarchy is a part of our country traditions, there simply doesn't appear to be any reason to abolish it. It's cheaper to have a monarch than a president, since you don't have to go out and recruit a new one ever so often. It's not like they're given any power, so they don't mess things up. It clearly works, we aren't gonna abolish 1,200 years of history and tradition just for a president.
