We all should remember that Harry and Markle said titles weren't important. But because the Sussexes lack any marketable talents (well, she was marketing a lot before the marriage), they now find themselves scurrying to maintain that royal link----they realize without it they're nothing. Just two disgruntled, constantly whining ingrates who have made a tidy living on bashing, threatening and trying to blackmail the royal family. The Queen did not grant them as great grandchildren of the monarch have no royal titles unless their father is the eldest son of the Prince of Wales. Charles has not granted them so they can’t be stripped. No one says Edward’s children were stripped of their titles, they are the first grandchildren through the male line of a British monarch not to be a Prince or Princess, they are Lord James (Viscount Severn) and Lady Louise. Their parents are full time working royals and the children often accompany them. Archie should be the Earl of Dumbarton, Harry’s secondary title, but we’re told Meghan declined to accept it because she didn’t like the place name starting with Dumb. What’s the point anyway? They live in California, there is and can be no royalty in California, she just wants these titles for marketing and cashflow.

The thing is, and I say this as an Englishmen, our Monarchy not only has a role but an obligation to perform royal duties in order to get the money they are given In other words, be working royals. That is their obligation, which the Queen carried out to her last days. If one of the royal family chooses not to fulfil that obligation that is their right. However, if they are no longer working royals (or put another way. Contributing to the benefit of the UK people and The Commonwealth) they should not be given any money and should not be allowed to hold HRH titles as that is reserved for working royals. You would not pay someone who used to do a job that they no longer do or want to do. The days of giving the monarchy money for just be royal are long gone. The modern Monarchy must earn it's living. Harry and his woman, however, think that they should be given all the prestige of being royal (just so they can be celebrities in America) as well as money without any obligation while at the same time trashing the royal family. I actually feel sorry for the two kids. They live in California, are both redheads and both appear to have very very fair skin. My brother-in-law was blond but had the same very very pale skin, and spent a lot of time working in California (he was a Kiwi). Skin cancer is a truly appalling way to die - and incredibly painful - and he left behind a widow and two children. I trust that every time the two children set foot out of doors they are literally slathered in sun screen and wearing clothing to protect against the UV rays as well. They would have been better if they had some of their mother's skin colouring, far far safer.

Let me clarify things: Under the current rules of the British monarchy, the Title of Prince and Pincess is granted to the monarch's children and grandchildren automatically. However, King Charles III has a new rule and focus, based on decreasing spending, thus limiting the title of Prince and Princess only to the children of the Monarch and the firstborn in the direct line of succession to the throne.

Harry and Meghan have a legal CLAIM by inheritance to the titles through the current letters patent that are published. However (!) all of these decisions about titles are ultimately at the discretion of the current monarch. King Charles has the final say about what he will legally pass on and credit as a title. It has be officially issued and approved from his office - it isn't automatic. He can just as easily amend a letter, especially on these matters, it is up to him the vision of his reign and the extension of his "court" so to speak - who represents him, and where.

Under that, those entitled to royal titles are the children of the monarch, the children of the sons of the monarch and the eldest son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales. Going strictly by the letter, William's two younger children should not have had their titles until Charles became king, so it's not set in stone completely. That said, because H&M are not working royals they lost the right to the HRH title, and their children should have no automatic right to it either for the same reason.
