This song is making me cry the first real tears I’ve felt in two years. It makes me think of him, even though neither of us would have heard this song. I know I’ll never get him back. At this point, I just hope he’s happy.

This song feels so safe and familiar even though I’ve never heard it before. It feels like growing old in comfort. Somewhere by the water, somewhere quiet, somewhere warm with a gentle breeze, sunset on a porch and a hot cup of Chamomile tea. Holding hands with the only person who has ever and will ever know you.

I think the song is saying that the older he gets the more he looks back at his life and is disappointed in what his dreams became or didn't come to fruition at all. The soul and body grow old and static like bats in the attic. He is sad because of this.

Lyrics: And I've gone so far in my travels, Growing silver in my sideburns I've started to unravel Heard my heartbeat on a downhill, I counted 18 on my pulse As Kilrenny clock struck three For 3 o'clock what else? What else? And you said 12 years in retirement. The hours go by like sips of water. The record lies unbroken And no doubt it's white flour in my diet That's going to be the death of me A sweet drum roll for those embittered big ideas. It's such a waste of all that I had. You mentioned bats in the attic So now you're lifting off the tiles To get around those conservation rules I'm locked down in the basement I'm hanging upside down I gag across my mealy mouth. And how I'll laugh out loud about that. When I read your simple novel That uses all our real names And go make yourself a fortune There's nothing left for us Than us left dangling just a little shamefaced. It's such a waste of all that we have. And it's such a waste of all that we have. And it's such a waste of all that I am.

The artist felt like this enough for this track you can't just say "Oh, there should be an ambient center here" It doesn't work like that... The song is beautiful as is. And it's a shame that some people think that an amazing short song is made short just for profit or singles. It's not. Art doesn't have to be prolonged to be art...

@olliephelan9 жыл бұрын
1bassist Are ye sure ? I got those lyrics just off the first site I found So , Ill take your word for it . But it doesnt exactly fit with his scots accent. (at least the way Im hearing it ). Do you know for definite ?
@oseriou9 жыл бұрын
+Ollie Phelan No, you're right. When the speaker says "And I've gone silver in my travels..." he's talking about how he's gotten old in life. You know, his hair is going grey. The phrase "growing silver in my sideburns" is the continuation of that thought. I know this is 2 months old, but the lyrics are so beautiful I didn't wnt you to think you were wrong!
@olliephelan9 жыл бұрын
Oseriouz repeating phrases like that goes back to Dylan And never sat once at the head of the table And didn't even talk to the people at the table Who just cleaned up the food from the table He does the same with "struck three for three o clock "
@oseriou9 жыл бұрын
+Ollie Phelan Yeah, definitely. It's just like poetry; when he says "I've gone silver in my travels/ growing silver in my sideburns," it's all imagery and the repetition brings attention to the speaker's disappointed and regretful tone. Dylan does the same thing when he repeats the word table, but the speaker's voice is a lot more discontented. The repetition of table also gives us insight to the characters themselves, as they never sit at the head of table or talk to the other occupants, but _clean up_ after them. But, whatever, I'm going too deep lmao. I just really like analysis and this song is so pretty, I couldn't help myself.

Everybody interprets songs differently, they are subjective. You say white flower but it can also be interpreted as white FLOUR [in his diet] / [going to be the death of me]. Could also be symbolic to drug use.
