This particular King Crimson album holds a special place in my heart. I purchased this the year it was released and have memorized all the lyrics. I am now sixty four, and remember how enchanted I was by these musicians, and still am. CRIMSO, will endure till the end of time..my time at least. I made a tapestry of this album cover, and gave it to my niece. I also made a relief cutting in linoleum of the 21st century schizoid man, in all the correct colors. I am a synthesist, and this music help shape my perspective on my craft, as a musician. Peace to you my friend. 🌖 Expanding Knowledge ∆

I'm just 18 and have just discovered this band. I first saw it on a Japanese cartoon (anime) where they named the characters from popular bands. To be honest I'm not that easily inclined to rock music but King Crimson has that charm that makes it too addictive to not be listened to.

I am 58 and first listened to King Crimson as a very young teenager. Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis, Gentle Giant, ELP, Jethro Tull, Van der Graaf Generator, etc. It all started at around 10 years old because my friend's brother, who was a few year older than us, was actively buying prog albums and let us listen them when he was out. :)

My roommate insisted this song was a song about "tripping" on good acid. I agree with him. Be it microdot, mushrooms, or LSD (the real stuff) if you dissect the lyrics "Now,...in this far away land, strange that the palms of my hands should be damp with expectancy" the song is describing the way that one's hands would feel when the acid was starting to take effect, (about 50 minutes after it was ingested). Descriptions of awakening senses described with sounds instead of words, " ooh, ooh, aah aah, " .... fireworks. "Different understanding,, trails," "Count the hours" looking at something from a different perspective, the trails that emanated from every move the There is more evidence throughout the song, but you get the point.

As a Ukrainian, I had some very important business in Ukraine so I had to go back to it via the bus from Poland, through the boarder, and into Ukraine with a few hours of driving spare. As I stayed in my apartment with my mother, I had the gift and curse of being able to walk around the streets of my yet destroyed childhood town, and I had this song playing sometimes. It completed it all. I am also an artist, a philosopher, a pianist and a polymath in progress, so as you might imagine, the experience melted in with my memories and the beautiful musicianship of Fripp into an unforgettable experience of anguish, pain, regret, reflection, recollection, reverie, catharsis, and many more strong emotions with each passing moment. Those are my quick 5 cents on the comment. I agree very much so.

Such a beautiful, pastoral yet underlying dark and melancholic track. Mysterious intro sounding like a ship out at sea or a storm blowing through a village, with the music emerging from the ruins. Night sounds, then sunrise on the cliffs (1:15), E minor; the seas swell, groan and crash at their feet (2:42). Wistful, sweet homesickness for that place by the sand (D major/G mixolydian for the verses), but in the end, back to E minor (7:05) and waves of loss, and longing. The desolation of that unresolved F# in the violin! A devastating and consoling song for lonely hours.
