I saw them with Bruford a couple of times at the Roxy, a tiny club. They blew the walls off the place, I think they must have been playing songs from Red and Larks Tongues during that time, can't remember exactly it was a long time ago.

the 80s were like really pop indeed for the charts but King Crimson never had a huge commercial success outside of their debut even in the 70s where they were making quite experimental records.. I think Discipline did chart a but not at the top of the charts but it did and God I just love that incarnation of the band with a catchy pop sound mixed with these complexe polymeters and time signatures and every members being genius and completing each other really well in an idiosyncratic way but yea it's unfortunate it wasn't a commercial hit
@peterbadore1338
@peterbadore1338 3 жыл бұрын
@@officialpierluk The problem was, the industry was no longer interested in trying out new ideas, an attitude that increased during the seventies. Yeah, I know, hit-obsession is always going to be prominent in record companies and such, but there was very little room for growth in the eighties, hence my comment. Everything was dance-oriented with no tolerance for anything unusual. Crimson managed to bridge that gap to a certain limit (this being probably the best example of both worlds). But, for me, the eighties were a dark ages in music creativity.

@@Relayer6a It was a modest video hit on MTV. It peaked at 51 on the Billboard charts which is a hit for Crimson, but certainly not a "big hit". As far as mainstream commercial radio airplay goes, it didn't get much.

Finding this song in 2024 is evidence for my (admittedly cynical) theory that we don't really need new music, there's enough amazing music already to endlessly entertain any one human being. New music increasingly seems to only serve to give new musicians something 'new' to 'create' (read: regurgitate) and give the music industry 'new' goods to peddle.

Yeah I know who Tony Levin is seen I'm at the omni twice he's one of the best bassist on the planet but my buddy Kevin Hill in Boston can match him I'm just a drummer but I've played with enough musicians to know but Sleepless at night and three.of a perfect pair are unmatched Robert Fripp is a giunuss

This doesn't sound the same as the version that was popular back in 1984. It's subtle, but I prefer the version that was originally on the album.

Not 100% on this, but this might be the Steven Wilson mix. He's been going back and doing remixed editions of old prog classics.

This is the original mix. The version released on original US copies of the album was actually a remix done by Bob Clearmountain.
