I‘ve been playing the F-5C extensively and you can outrate a lot of Planes, MiG-21s of all sort included. The thing is: it only works while keeping your speed above Mach 0.9. The Engine produces a lot of Power compared to it being at Mach 0.7, so basically…. as soon as you bleed to much speed in a rate fight, you Uno Reverse Card your own ass.

I've been playing the F-5C a lot too, I don't get how to outplay a MiG-21. Even a worse player will outplay you, they speed up quicker, have higher top speed, can beat you in a turn fight, have missiles that work, just seems to be an all round superior plane. Oh, and now they can also put out their fires.

@@jimjamjoeyjoejoe How long have you been playing the F-5C? As a rule of Thumb: yes the MiG-21 can stomp you, but ironically; the strengths of the F-5C are also the MiG-21‘s weaknesses. The F-5 has an amazing energy retention, while the MiG-21 sheds a lot of speed in a turn. You can go Mach 1, do a 180 and you‘ll start gaining distance on the MiG-21. You also have guns you can Aim and they also hit quite hard for it‘s caliber. So in a nutshell: you‘ll outrate a MiG-21 if you keep it at Mach 0.9 - 1.0. Rolling scissors won‘t work, but going Vertical at that speed might bleed them a lot of speed. In the end it‘s a matter of tactics, a good MiG-21 Pilot will clap your cheeks so play your cards right and you might get away with it.

@@PerriThePlatyPilot Don’t go vertical loops against mig 21. Even if the mig will bleed more speed, it’ll go faster upwards and can point the nose with its AoA. Try and force sustained rate fights.

If you're bleeding speed in a rate fight then you're not doing it correctly. To rate fight you need to stay within your planes optimal rate speed, if you're constantly pulling max G turns ofc you're going to bleed yourself of speed.

Practice makes perfect. I love the mig 21’s so much I basically only play it. It does take a while to get the hang of it but my best advice would be to aim uncomfortably ahead and you will hit your mark.

I'm starting to fly top tier, and I'm finding it very hard to get reliable information on the current meta or even simply how each aircraft stacks against the others. Many videos are outdated, new jets added, armaments changed... I'm using the F-4EJ Kai and feel like I have no way to influence the outcome of the battle, what is my role and how to stay useful and safe at the same time. It most probably comes down to my lack of experience, but so far I'd rather fly the Mitsubishi F-1 with which I can do decently well... and if I'm not mistaken, that thing isn't exactly the best at 10.3 What I'd like to know is: at 11.3, can I influence the outcome of my matches or is it more of a coin toss? If yes, is there any chance you Defyn could give us some pointers? Thanks for all your previous guides, they have always been useful

First, I just want to say that I really enjoy all your videos and wish I had the knowledge you do. Secondly, I'm curious on why you didn't shoot a missle at the F-8E, at 14:39. He was at the top of his loop, slow speed, about 1.8km away and you had a lock on him.

I can't be entirely sure, but I think the reason why DEFYN didn't shoot his missile at the F-8E was because the F-8E was a free guns kill. Typically, missiles are often used as a utility to encourage/discourage an enemy's action or to remove people from the match quickly with little hassle, and using a missile against someone who is hanging from the air is a bit of a waste in that regard, as you're throwing away a utility that could have easily been saved. It's only with hindsight that we can say that DEFYN should've fired a missile there, as we know the outcome of him missing the F-8E.

Love your content, DEFYN! I've been watching your channel for a while now trying to learn how to play Air RB. A question for you, sir, if I may: and maybe you already plan on answering it in your video for Sunday. If the MiG-21SMT is as fast as it is, accelerates as well as it does, and carries the missiles it does at 10.3, how are the F-5As and F-5C 10.3 material with a lower top speed and much worse missiles comparatively not to mention fewer of them. Do they expect you to ground pound in that airframe, are they overtiered and should be lowered to 10.0, or is the MiG-21SMT actually 10.7 material with a 10.3 BR? Or is there something else about them entirely that I am missing all together (which wouldn't surprise me as I'm still new to Air RB combat). Keep up the great videos; looking forward to the next one. o7

The SMT is probably a little undertiered, my experience flying it felt like it would be fine at 10.7. That said, the f5's should under no circumstances go down any lower than they are. They have mediocre missiles (9E's) but they have absolutely insane flight performance. They aren't the fastest compared to 11.0 or other 10.3 jets like the mig21, but they have excellent dogfighting potential and energy retention, great guns with lots of ammo, countermeasures and a literally broken damage model. The main thing that holds the f5 back compared to the SMT is that as a premium, the f5c has been spammed to hell and back by every noob US grinder out there. Br compression at top tier is horrific, so this sort of situation tends to pop up a lot.
