King Floyd, (Rst In Peace) is one of the architects of the New Orleans soul music scene. I was honored to have known him as a kid growing up in 1970's New Orleans , as he and my step father, Jackie Pettis were singing buddies. My step father was an amazing, gifted vocalist with a four octave vocal range, he unfortunately died violently at the age of 42. But as far as I'm concerned, King Floyd is one of the world's most soulful vocalist, true that!

Proto rap! I’m old enough to remember being in first grade at an all black elementary school we would rap to this. Flash forward to five years ago I was with a record producer also black who tried to tell me the first rap record was kurtis blow in 1980. I said I got a c note says your wrong. Played the song he threw it down and left angry.

On this day in 1971 {January 16th} King Floyd performed "Groove Me" on the late Dick Clark's 'American Bandstand'... Three months earlier on October 24th, 1970 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #6 and spent 20 weeks on the Top 100... And on January 2nd, 1971 it reached #1 {for 4 non-consecutive weeks} on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart... King Floyd passed away on March 6th, 2006 at the age of 61... R.I.P. King Floyd and Mr. Clark {1929 - 2012}...

+Terry Hillen He is lip syncing to the original recording. It was recorded at the Malaco Records studio in Jackson, Mississippi with Vernie Robbins on bass; James Stroud on drums; Wardell Quezerque on keys; Jerry Puckett on guitar and Hugh Garraway and Perry Lomax on horns. I love the Southern Soul that still comes from the Malaco label.

As a young white boy, about 20, this song created a positive vibe in my head and an good image of domestic life. Thank you King Floyd, New Orleans & the soulful Southland. @@itsyevette836 yeah but no one is saying it's good or bad. Obviously it's an awesome voice. But until I shazaamed it last night. I thought this was a woman and I'm 32 lol. I never really heard the whole song. Just in passing or like on a commercial and they only play the chorus. So you don't hear "make me feel good mama" lol. It's all clear now lol. But you're not alone.
