Thank you for these videos. Very educational and when I'm seeing you, it feels as though I'm getting a personal class from your beautiful home. Only hard part is how exhausting it is to always hear about psychopaths, as are the ones reaching for power and wealth...imo. Best wishes to you and yours. xx

I. LOVE. PROFESSOR. BARTLETT!!!! I know a bit about scholarship (my doctorate degrees are in music, but still...one has to research and lecture, etc.), and I tell you he is a brilliant scholar and a genius at THE TELLING. His passion for his subject infects his organization and synthesis, his ability to put everything contemporary together and tell it so that one remembers. Bravo! I think I could listen to him all day.

I struggled with history at school. I still can only take in broad brush strokes, but the quality of this video and the information provided still leaves me, a third rate student of history, with a desire to know more. It won't help me on my allotment growing basic necessities of life but it may help me understand why world rulers today appear to be Teflon coated.

I thought I had problems with history but later realized the problem was my history teachers. My mom had lots of great history books and it was when I focused on Roman history that bits and pieces of other histories began to stick like the spokes of a wheel to the axle.

In another one of these done by Professor Bartlett, he said that the future Edward II was never called Prince Edward because the sons of kings weren't given the title of prince for about another century. I've read Edward I called the Lord Edward, when he was the oldest son of King Henry III. Sir Maurice Powicke published KING HENRY III AND THE LORD EDWARD in 1947. I know that the title of Duke was introduced to England by Edward III for his sons - even though it had been used on the continent for centuries.

Robert Bartlett gives a very thorough and adept account of the life and reign of King John. King John is portrayed by actor Edwin Arthur -aka- Guy Rolfe in the 1953 film Ivanhoe. It's a coincidence the actor 1911-2003 (Rolfe) was born in December and died in October for his years and King John himself was also born in December and died in October for his time. (1166-1216)

So here we have yet another discussion of the life of John without reference to his proposals on legal reform; the Magna Carta without referencing the military and administrative backgrounds of the rebel barons; and reference to the rebels and French taking London without referencing the achievements of William "Longespée.". (Just how long would the London merchants have supplied the French/rebel army after they stopped receiving payment?) I have to admit that the Brits are brilliant at propaganda. Most of their information is mostly true, and they supply just enough good information to justify the creation of false conclusions.

No 'Prince John'? I assume he was 'the Lord John', like his grandson, the future King Edward I, was known as 'the Lord Edward' during the reign of Henry III ? Would this make the future Edward II to be the first Prince Edward?

Fully twenty, of the twenty-four Magna Carta Surety Barons are tied by kinship, and/or, marriage. Many of these, or, their wives, are descendant of Robert Beaumont, Justiciar of England and/or Richard Lucy, Justiciar of England. Surety's are capitalized names. The twenty-fifth was William Hardell who was the Mayor of London and whom we know nothing. GEOFFREY DE SAY and GEOFFREY DE MANDEVILLE are cousins each married to a sister of GILBERT & RICHARD DE CLARE. RICHARD MONTFITCHET is brother-in-law to WILLIAM DE FORZ. ROGER BIGOD & HUGH BIGOD, ROBERT DE VERE & JOHN FITZROBERT are cousins descendant of Gilbert FitzRichard & Alice de Clermont. Maud, Countess of Huntingdon m. 1) Simon St Liz & 2) David, 'The Saint' King of Scots, is ancestress to ROBERT FITZ WALTER, WILLIAM D'AUBIGNY, SAHER IV DE QUINCY, WILLIAM DE HUNTINGFIELD, HENRY BOHUN, and the wives of ROBERT DE ROS and EUSTACE DE VESCY. WILLIAM LANVALLY is married to FitzWalters niece, JOHN DE LACY is married to de Quincy's granddaughter. WILLIAM MARSHALL, Jr is brother-in-law to GILBERT DE CLARE & HUGH BIGOD. There are strong family connections that I think too long overlooked.
