Read my comment above regarding the pros and cons of monarchy vs democracy. Elected officials under a democracy treat the electorate with contempt. They will also do anything to make them look better in the short even if it as the cost of the long term. Historically, monarchs who ruled despotically did no last long. China's political system and growth over the last 30 years, in some ways has more resemblance to a monarchy than anything else- they certainly havent been practising communism. Ultimately, a people and culture i think HAS to have a system of government that the people buy into. People the world over are becoming very fed up with democratically elected thieves. This is just an outsider's observation, who happens to admire the Zulu nation.

I dont like monarcy, mainly because of the potential for despotic rulers. However, i am beginning to think that i like democracy, with its politiians, even less. At least a monarchy has te long term view for the sake of his children/dynasty, whereas an elected politician only thinks about what mkes him/her look good for the next election cycle. The main incentive to being elected in a democracy seems to be that they can steal as much as possible in their term.
