What a treat - seeing the usually slick and tuxedod Conrad Veidt going rough. And it looks so good on him! Thank you for posting this wonderful Veidt vehicle.

Patricia Merry. Veidt is also great in the role of uncouth theif/murderer/scoundrel in 'Rome Express', '32, also dir. by Forde. In Rome Express he looks much older, taller & heavier than in other films & he performs brilliantly as the despicable amoral criminal, very unlike his typically suave well-finished gentleman roles. The lighting & camera angles combine with his wonderful facial expressions to make him at times resemble a poisonous snake about to strike. He could always use facial expressions with a genius seldom seen & in Rome Express he creates marvelous facial contortions to reveal the base evil of this very ungentlemanly criminal who murders with pleasure & afterward revels in memory of the act's pleasure. Rome Express is now available free with Ahmed Rajeh channel. Beautifully directed by Walter Forde.

@@janegarner9169 I'm much more disgusted by Major Strasser, his character from "Casablanca", than the rapscallion from the "Rome Express". But he has an attractive villain in "The Baghdad Thief", the vizier.

Wow, i was expecting this to be a rather boring or not so interesting film, but it was really great! Definitely has it’s flaws, but certainly makes you think about its message. Also, another amazing Veidt performance of course

A word of comment on NOAH BEERY, WALLACE BEERYS' son. WALLACE BERRY was a wonderful actor, noted in his day, and played a plethora of characters, nabbing an Oscar. There is not much of NOAH BEERY - but a wonderful character actor, as his father! Much the same characteristics and mannerisms, NOAH BEERY, like father like son - a joy to watch!

Lizzie Sangi Noah Beery was Wallace Berry’s elder brother.

Lizzie Sangi. He plays this kind of big dumb character so well that it is his own character, not the character of the prisoner he's playing. He always makes me feel sorry for him even when the role is that of a useless loser with no morals, I think partly because his body language as well as his speech make me feel he is a poor dumb beast. He has a lumbering slowness of movement & that hangdog face, which when combined with his improper grumbling manner of speech make him seem a pathetic old work-horse facing the end of a hard mean life slaughtered to make glue or dog food. Except that work-horses have rarely committed any offense to society to deserve such a fate, while this human character he plays is willing to murder a trusted friend for a small profit & is seemingly a man without morals or conscience. Yet Beery still draws our sympathy somehow. Though i haven't seen all his films, those i have seen show him in essentially this role. It makes me uncomfortable to watch him, disturbing.

Yes, Noah and Wallace were brothers. Noah Beery, Jr. was the son of Noah Beery. He's probably remembered best by many people today as playing Jim Rockford's father in the tv show "The Rockford Files" starring James Garner as Rockford.

Increíble: Una película donde mi amado Conrad Veidt aparece sin camisa. ¿Cómo no la encontré antes?

There are at least 3 more films he appears in without a shirt. "Under the Red Robe" (drying off out of wet clothes next to a fire), Nazi Agent (getting out of the shower), The Men in Her Life (lying in a bath tub).

Sometimes she couldn't recognize Conrad. From time to time he changed so much that he became almost a different person.

Wallace was a thug although I don't know about his brother Noah who is in this film.
