Okay, so the premise of King-Ohger is bug-themed futuristic kingdoms, yet the giant robot looks like it was put together from scraps found at a junkyard, and the noises made by this particular toy is described as "grungy" by Emgo. What is this show even, and should I watch it in order to understand?

it's a really good show. I would 100% watch it. Note the kingdoms have different aesthetics, they aren't all futuristic, each one has a different aesthetic. Also Jeremie Brasieri, Spider Kumonos, is incredibly amusing (all of the team members are but..)

It's high fantasy actually,same like your typical jrpg.. with every ranger coming from a nation of different aesthetics . The robots are designed to be that way because apparently their are lost technology. Emgo pointed out the sword chipping details because it is not battle damage but worn and torn due to elements
