I'm pretty sure people didn't actually think this was real, but were amused enough to go along with it. I would've gotten an autograph because why not? It was hilarious, and that guy looked incredibly like the painting. While I do think they should've gotten authorization in the first place just to be safe, I don't see anything wrong with what they did here :)

The thing that makes this extra hilarious to me is, the last time I was at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, there was a man staring at a painting, and the painting and the man could have been twins. This is fantastic, I love it.

Also Philip IV belonged to the House of Habsburg, which was part of Austrian and Burgundian nobility and often married between first cousins. That could explain how they kept such an unusual genetic profile while ruling Spain for 200 years. On the downside, just make a quick google image search and take a look at Philip's son Carlos II.
