That was impressive work. You certainly know what you're doing. I have a 92 international 4700 and will gladly watch any videos of that vintage you care to post. :-)

You should make an install video! This was very helpful!

Very useful information. I have an 04 c7500 kodaik and got quoted high dollar to change them. I always grease the fittings and want to tackle this myself. Do you have any tips on the installation part? Are they pressed in? Drove in? Do they have to be honed in?

Hi have a 2002 c7500 and was watching your video needed some help with the torque specs for the front wheel bearing adjustment.

My 1967 Chevrolet C70 has ten leaf springs per side on the front axle. Each leaf spring is 3/8th inch thick. My gross vehicle weight is 31,000 lbs. I have been trying to figure out what the capacity is on the front axle. I am thinking it is a 9000 lb front axle and a 22,000 lb rear axle. The truck has a 401 GMC V6 engine with a 2 barrel Stromberg carb and oil bath air filter. The king pins are tapered with a castle nut on the top. A 15 X 3.5 brake drum is mounted inboard of the hub. I have looked everywhere for drums for this application and come up empty handed. Am think of converting to disc brakes but have no guidance on the conversion. I don't know why this truck only has two leaf springs per side. Why does my truck have 10 per side? Nice video thanks. Thumbs up.

Thanks for watching and the thumbs up! I do work on some of those older trucks, I'll see if I can help you with some info... it may take me a few days.

According to my research, 3.5" brakes were only on 9k or 10k front axles. Do you have a number off the drums?

I don't know why this response just came up now , but. There's a junk yard near me that has a lot of old trucks in it .give me the dimensions and I'll check for them the next time I go there

Hey, I am working on a 2002 c7500 with the same style king pin. The kit did not come with shims to set the bearing preload, and I can not find the shims anywhere. What kit did you use that came with shims? any help is greatly appreciated.
@HarrygTV Жыл бұрын
Hello! Sorry for the delayed reply. I have used the stemco and meritor kits. They have come with the shims. However, the thick factory shim is usually retained and then sometimes added to with the thinner shims that are in the kits. This has been my experience so far. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Is this similar to doing it on a 2005 C5500?
@HarrygTV2 жыл бұрын
The procedure is similar, but the details are very different. A C5500 would probably not have air brakes with drums, but rather hydraulic disc. Also, the king pin design would be different. Instead of having a tapered pin with a big nut on top and a tapered roller bearing on the bottom of the knuckle, it would have a straight pin with one or two draw keys holding the pin in and bushings on the top and bottom of the knuckle. I don't have a video showing any of those, but there are many on KZbin. Thanks for watching!

So I got one of these trucks at my shop and the kingpins were very sloppy so I order the K120G kit for this vehicle and the small spacer you say to reuse is not in this axle. There is just a 1/2” gap or so where it would go. Do you know where I can get this spacer I have called all around the state of Colorado trying to find it and I’m guessing the previous shop that worked on this just threw it out. And GMC medium duty doesn’t have it i their blown up diagram so they say it doesn’t exist.
@HarrygTV6 жыл бұрын
stephen kontyko that spacer doesn't come in the kit, that's why you need to keep up with it. It does come with shims though in case the preload had to be adjusted. I don't know how you could do this job without it as you wouldn't be able to torque the nut properly. What did you do?

@@HarrygTV What are the torque specs on the castle nut?

How does this frame compare to a 3500 dually 1994?
@HarrygTV6 жыл бұрын
Well, this is obviously bigger. As far as the front ends go, the 3500s have independent suspension, the 3500HD has a solid axle like this but the king pins are the more traditional style.
