Thanks for watching. Chess is the best!!
Top Chess Engine Championship, formerly known as Thoresen Chess Engines Competition (TCEC or nTCEC), is a computer chess tournament that has been run since 2010. It was organized, directed, and hosted by Martin Thoresen until the end of Season 6; from Season 7 onward it has been organized by Chessdom. It is often regarded as the Unofficial World Computer Chess Championship because of its strong participant line-up and long time-control matches on high-end hardware, giving rise to very high-class chess.
The TCEC competition is divided into seasons, where each season happens over a course of a few months, with matches played round-the-clock and broadcast live over the internet. Each season is divided into several qualifying stages and one "superfinal", where the top two chess engines play 100 games to win the title of "TCEC Grand Champion". In the superfinal, each engine plays 50 openings, once as each side. Beginning in Season 11 in 2018, a division system was introduced; the top 2 engines in each division are promoted, and the bottom 2 are relegated. Currently, there are 5 divisions (a Premier division, and divisions 1-4); newcomers generally start in division 4.

Actually this is a hoodie that has a long story. It is a hoodie with a Lichess logo and my brother in law Agadmator bought it for himself. Then my sister washed it at high temperatures and it shrank. Because Agad is much taller it's pefect for me and he gave it away and now I have it

re: letting the engines choose their own openings; i'm also curious if stockfish could beat a tier 3 engine like nirvana from the starting position.

The addition of the little neural net has made a big difference. Stockfish went on to win this match by 9 points. I'm currently following another season 19 TCEC 100 game bonus match at 30 5 time control between stockfish (classical) and stockfish (nnue). It's a slaughter. The neural net really makes the thing stronger, especially positionally. In difficult positions, stockfish (classical) is losing.

I have exactly the same thoughts about dubious lines. While checking some sidelines where one side defends with some potential counterplay is cool and definitely needed for the unbalance purposes, the basic opening mistakes which are easily refuted aren't enjoyable to watch. And I also would love to see the pure engine games from move 1, maybe with some a bit more aggressive setup but still, it could confirm the best choices by the engines.

A5 was awesome, it was a very important moment of the game. With a potential b5 pawnbreakthrough motif black could have good chances in the game

the engine is called neural network stockfish, but it could just as easily be called matrix search leela, no? basically a combination of the two top engines.

The problem with playing from opening position is that it would almost certainly be a draw. Like humans, engines like to play solid lines. Engines have little to no chance of going wrong in solid/classical lines

We know what they prefer. They usually play e4 and play openings like french, queens gambit declined, sicilian, ruy lopez, giocco piano. If they play without book at this time control of 120 mins and 10 sec increment will be 96-97 percent draws although im confident sf will still win. It no longer has bookless weakness after nnue. At lower time control stockfish will win by bigger marigin. Its way to strong as of now.

In faster time format Stockfish is a monster. I agree with your choice of openings. Even if Many draws would happen we could see the last and deepest lines of that openings

@@jasonz9902 The problem is not playing without the book. Problem is that if they play without book, the games will very repetetive and similar to each other which will make the tournments very boring. Viewers want to see blood tbh lol. But they do play bookless sometimes. But if you want to what they prefer. Well both prefer e4 as white. But sf likes to get into french, giocco piano in bookless, while leela prefers french, ruy lopez. Although they both do tend to switch etc. Also stockfish sometimes prefers c4 isntead of e4
