I am from Germany and sadly never been to the UK (even though I would love to see this beautiful country with my own eyes one day) but even I know that you should be respectful towards those serving. But maybe that's because I think you should always be respectful. Doesn't matter if the person wears a uniform or not. But making their day harder by trying to provoke them just because you think it's "funny"? Damn... Loved the way how you spoke to those two boys. You didn't scream, you were not overly dramatic, you just calmly explained to them why it was not okay what they did and I hope they will remember that next time they find themselve in a similar situation. Just treat others the way you want to be treated. And I am pretty sure no one wants to be disrespected.

As a retired professional equestrian with 45+ years of experience, it is abundantly clear from these videos that these horses receive the best care in every respect. The Royal family is notorious for loving horses and dedication to their well-being. The incredibly dull duty of standing still in that box will invariably cause some horses not to view that as a positive experience, and from time to time, they will object to doing it. I frankly cannot blame them. I have said all along that the two mounted guards and their charges must face the public passers-by while at the same time facing a busy vehicle thoroughfare for their entire shift. If I were in charge, I would close the outer doors to the guard boxes that face the public street and walkway and have those two guards face inward toward the enclosed courtyard. This would reduce the stress the rider and the horse must endure while performing their daily shift. It would also reduce the incidences of the ignorant public putting themselves and their children in danger by acting irresponsibly around the horses to get a photograph. This venue is not Disneyland nor a petting zoo. These guards are not there for photo ops of the public but to protect the Royal Family and their property. I realize that the fancy uniforms the guards must wear may give one the impression that they are there for the public's pleasure; they are NOT. Let's accept that the public, for the most part, are complete idiots, regardless of their country of origin. There's no excuse for this behavior; they will never change for the better. However, the horses and their riders should not endure this stupid behavior repeatedly while trying to do their assigned daily jobs. And clearly, those warning signs are worthless. Many tourists need to read and understand the English language, and even those that do ignore the warning signs anyway.
@Kissameassa538
@Kissameassa538 11 ай бұрын
I concur with what you are saying. If tourists knew what these men have been trained to do they would think twice about their behaviour. I have said a few times the best thing we can do to get respect for our boys and girls doing their duty is to put fake blood on their swords and let the people see this. I bet there would be a change of attitudes then. Respect. ❤️🇬🇧🫡

The Queen used to get the hay for her stables from our area in the United States. I'm not sure why ours is so good, but it's a short season, as it's cold as can be up here. It's the eastern end of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
@jilldavies7094
@jilldavies7094 11 ай бұрын
It would be pointless turning the mounted guards 180 degrees and have them face the courtyard. They are keeping an eye on what goes on in Whitehall. Indeed, the guards are sometimes chastised if they are too deep in the box---they're told to come out more onto the pavement so that they can see up and down the street. And, if you turn them round so that they only face inwards, then they really WILL have sunk to the level of a Disney theme park attraction, serving no useful purpose but there simply for photo ops.

@@jilldavies7094 Surely you are not serious!!! They are nothing but photo props right now. They have no absolute authority to do anything but shout at the public when they get exceptionally foolish. Putting these highly trained guards and their horses in particular, through this every shift shows the utmost disrespect to them and their duty. And the heavily armed police out front do little to protect the grounds. They allow drunks and the mentally ill to harass the horses and the guards, and they then engage in polite verbal exchanges with the perpetrators. Over here in the US, those perpetrators would be in cuffs and on their way to the drunk tank or a mental facility in a heartbeat for such behavior. Sooner or later, someone in the public on the public thoroughfare will be hurt seriously by one of these horses that's just had enough of this nonsense. And my sincerest hope is that it is not a child that gets hurt when that happens. As a former professional equestrian and a military veteran, I find this entire thing absolutely ludicrous and totally unnecessary.

You've always been a favorite, as I learn a lot from your running commentary, but now you're an absolute favorite at the very top of my list because you cared enough to step up! 9:09 - When you see a horse that is displaying the way that Ormonde was here, and you still try to get closer, after the horse has shown tons of warning signs, you should expect a nip as you weren't cautious enough, and ignored all the signs. It didn't look like Ormonde really connected, but nipped her, and as she was trying to slink away, she appears to step into some manure, which contributed to her fall.

I have met many young Israel tourists over the past 10 months and they are so kind, polite and respectful. Especially the young men who either serve or who have served in the Israeli military. Same with the large Israeli tour groups which visit Horse Guards regularly. That's why it often pains me to see Orthodox Jewish visitors showing scant regard for serving military folk. It's why I always use the IDF reference - and every time it's like a light bulb moment and they realise they were in the wrong, just like this misguided young man did today. Fair play to him for putting his hands up and admitting he was at fault. 🙏🏻

I subscribed mainly because you schooled those young men. They are British and should know better than to ridicule a military personnel, active or non-active. The military deserves respect. I’m American and it really bothers me when people disrespect the military

And that's why you don't just go up to a horse and expect it to be fine! You wouldn't do this to a dog, especially in light of recent events, you would ask if the dog was ok with being petted. But people go up to these horses and expect them to be fine with being crowded or approached from the side etc. Lots of horses hate being approached from the side, because although they have a large field of vision, that is a bit of a blind spot. It doesn't matter that these animals are more used to people being around them, at the end of the day a horse is a prey animal and will act accordingly! Answer...stop people going anywhere near the horses!

I’m retired, career military and I very much appreciate how you straighten out those lads for being so rude & insulting. I’ve seen that from older jewish men doing even worse, with a Nazi salute, and stomping feet, at that very same guard position. I like watching tourists interacting with guards and you have just earned a sub, London City Walks. Thank you again for dealing with the lads 👍👍, and all your videos.

The Jewish people, young and old, seem to have no respect for the King's Guards. With the persecution they've suffered you would think they would be more considerate and respectful of others. In my opinion, they come to see the guards just to make fun of them.
