22 downvotes makes no sense to me. This video was short, sweet, to the point, accurate, and the techniques immediately applicable to anyone trying to nail the Ty Tabor ethos. Some jerks live to be contrarians.

Maybe it’s because a total beginner might not really be able to get it because of how quick he’s running through it?

Awesome instructional video. We are truly blessed that you have have taken the time not only to analyze such an amazing song with such great care, focus and attention to detail, but that you then took the time and effort to produce this video and share what you have learned with all of us. Amazing work. Thank you for sharing!

Nice job giving input to Ty's style. Ty is one of the most under rated player ever! Kings-x is like my top listen to bands ever. Rush is right up there also. Talked with Doug and Jerry many times very cool people. Thanks for the Video :)

My dad raised me on King’s X and Rush. He named me after Ty Tabor lol love King’s X & Ty. Jerry, Ty & dUg are all underrated musicians and I’ve actually had the pleasure of meeting them on multiple occasions and seeing one of their shows in Poughkeepsie at The Chance theater and it was awesome

I completely agree. Especially with the Dennis Miller performance. He does so many really difficult things. The outro solo has him changing pickups, adjusting tones and singing really high. He takes no shortcuts, and to me that's the best performance I've ever seen him have. Little known fact, they were playing to an empty room due to the LA riots

Thanks! Appreciate the clarification. So many others describe anything as Drop D these days. And I really appreciate you taking time throughout the video to explain how these riffs work, and why too. It really helps to make that point about syncopating because so many guitarists practice alone, and forget there's a bassist, toss those little place holders in, when it should be more like an inner dialog. If I had Dug Pinnick playing base, I wouldn't stomp all over his parts, lol. Cheers!

Ty is an absolutely brilliant and innovative guitarist along with the likes of Eddie VanHalen and Alex Lifeson. And kings X is an absolutely brilliant band! Another amazing instrumental trio that stuns with every performance!

This is an outstanding instructional video! You've covered some critical points about playing the song in ensemble, which is rarely spoken of or done by so many guitarists out there. Many songs I've done (with a live band) where the guitarist(s) toss in those place keeper licks where they should be delegated to the bassist, and practiced that way,your points should be gladly received, but these days the mere mention of "true to the recording" will be dismissed by most in lieu of sloppy & lazy.

Hey Calvin, that was awesome and right on the money. I immediately checked out the Jon Stewart video and it's dead on. It's a bit af a stretch, but after awhile REALLY feels better as well as nailing the riff. Sweet little elite as well. Rock on, Brother!

EXCELLENT video Calvin, thanks for working so hard, espeicially the technique tips, thats pro level shit friend!!! I fell off my chair laughing when you did the singing guitar player 'cheat', very funny and clearly you've been there, yes? Yeah, X has got some pretty busy guitar parts to make being able to sing along with it NOT easy!!! You really have to be able to do that weird 'two brains/two instruments' level consciousness game, ouch!! Try singing to 'Natural Science' by Rush, that insanely busy 2nd opening chord progression (when the electric guitar comes in and the acoustic strumming part opening ends). That was the first time I ever accomplished that brain seperation thingy, whew!

Great jam Calvin, dam good lesson, I think one of the greatest thing about kings x, They share the band, each member sharing the song with out selfish egos. And that sound that he gets from his guitar is bad ass. That is Ty tabors SIG.your playing rite? Thanks

Nice lesson! Is that Fender Elite? What are the pickups on that guitar?
@multiverseofmusic-clh
@multiverseofmusic-clh 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's an Elite. It's the stock pickups, with an active electronics system. Oddly, there's a FOURTH pickup under the pickguard that is supposed to reduce hum... doesn't really work but interesting tidbit :-).

I don't find the verses that hard to sing and play more staccato like Ty does to me it makes it easier to keep time but the chorus is really a lot more difficult to multitask when your continually anticipating the fills... ...Yikes!

+MT Rich or do you have small hands?
@multiverseofmusic-clh
@multiverseofmusic-clh 8 жыл бұрын
+MT Rich the neck is wider and flatter than typical fender, however i am also cursed with short fingers :-(. the guitar is a fender strat elite from 1983. the pickups are i think alnico 5 and they were stock in the guitar. the guitar also came with a built in active mid-boost circuit that is very handy for leads (but it's rolled all the way off for the rhythm parts). it's a very strange guitar, but i love it.
