Nice early action! Regarding the break offs and hook sets when you are using braid skein fishing for kings I found you need extra cushion somewhere. A little bit softer rod, lighter hook set, or what I do is add about 15-18in of heavy monofilament shock leader between my braid main line and my flouro leader say 20lb mono (keep your float above it on your main line). It gives you the extra stretch you need when setting the hook or for blistering runs. Or frankly you could probably run a mono leader instead of flouro. Just some thoughts from personal experience float fishing with braid. Tight lines this season and keep the videos coming!

Explain to me how rain gets them biting? In the PNW rain doesn’t affect the bite. River level does. Rivers on the rise after a heavy rain shuts off the bite as fish will be on the move. Rivers on the drop after it stops raining for a day or two can make salmon hold down in pools turning on the bite.

If you have to set so hard switch to 20 pound mono, and lose the split shots that might weaken your line. Tell till you feel. Just yanking stirs up the hole. I don't know why you guys call eggs "skein"? Use 20lb fluoro min the fish don't care.
@tiredredneck81592 ай бұрын
Skein is the whole hunk of the roe bag without removing them like you would for single eggs. Ya cure em on the skein so ya don't tie em into bags. Now ya know

Skein is when they’re in the membrane still. Tight lines

Okay. How come I am the only woman I see fishing for salmon or trout on the river? Don’t women do this? Since I have actually never caught one, and at the risk of getting blasted by insinuating that women are the weaker sex, is it a super physical thing to bring one of those fish in?

@@MsLookinup plenty of women around here do it!

You need heavier gear. They shouldn’t be breaking off that easily.

Just braid problems. Not a gear weight issue

Your hook set is too snappy/jerky. Try a slightly slower set , raising the rod high and firm

@@sbrydson that is good advice, in small shallow water especially. Have found that to be true 👍

Your hook sets need a little finesse …….let them take it first count to two then set the hook.

broi is opulling the bait out of the salmon mouth and is getting upset... dude you're literally yanking those bobbers so hard, no wonder the line gotten messy from backlash, not only are salmon bones are thick, they're going to take a minute to hook yet you rip the hook that's barely set right out of their mouth.... frustrating video to watch
@sbsoutdooraction30552 ай бұрын
@@EnderDragonGamerz02 still have to swing a little to get hooks through skein and set right. Also a small river so could tone the sets down a little with being so close

Why are you putting the eggs so far above the hook? Is it a regulations thing in Michigan? No one over here in the PNW runs their eggs that way. No one. That looks like an Alaska flossing rig. Not going to lie… tough watch. Breaking off fish and yanking it out of so many mouths. Woof.

@@PNW-GuyDudeman the eggs are attached to the hook by a loop knot?
@PNW-GuyDudeman2 ай бұрын
@@sbsoutdooraction3055 Run an egg loop knot. That way, you can put eggs (or skein if that’s what you guys call them) directly on the hook and secure with the egg loop. Lose the bead entirely. I guarantee you a 20:1 hookup ratio. Try it. Run it through that same hole. And hook up everytime.
