"King" was about the late Martin Luther King, Jr., questioning the lost direction of the deceased leader's followers and the state of mourning of a nation after his death, Taken from the Album Signing Off.
Signing Off featured a mix of reggae and dub material which was lyrically politically charged and socially conscious, while musically it was reverb-heavy, doom-laden yet mellifluous, best exemplified in the hits "King" and "Food For Thought"
The album's release was preceded by two double A-sided singles. The first, "King"/"Food For Thought", was released as UB40's debut single in February 1980. It topped the independent music chart for three months, reached number 4 in the main UK singles chart, and went on to sell nearly half a million copies.
speaking about the single in 2010, Bob Lamb said, "'Food for Thought' was actually the B-side of 'King' originally: although it was a double A-side 'King' was always going to be the main song, but the DJs picked up on 'Food for Thought' because it was quicker and chirpier, more dancey, more of a radio track.
Apart from loving this track the main reason I have done this video is as practice at using Davinci Resolve.

I was an original member of the first fan club and remember this remix too. I’m 59 years old now and they’ve been a part of my life all the way through. I’ve still got my original vinyl copies of the first 5 albums.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ and I love them all .Paul from Bedworth uk 🇬🇧

i was 16 1980 when these brilliant 8 working class lads released this brilliant album it changed my life i heard king the remix on the john peel show that was it went to see them at the hammersmith palai on november 3rd 1980 they done wild cat and silent witness which came off present arms when people say its all about the moment you better believe it lastly rip astro and brian and not forgetting the great ray pablo falconer❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤💯 ub40

Its not about the politics Its about the 80s. Cheers ali robin , ali and family. My dad , Brian,, 86 yr old, still plays their dads music. Remember Ian Campbell. There is Folk everywhere 🕴
