None of that is true you’re just ignorant to what life is like in other places. If you haven’t grown up in areas where this is ACTUAL LIFE then you have no insight to what it’s like. What would you do if you were in the slums with absolutely nothing? A lot of us relied on friends because we didn’t have a good home life or we didn’t have both parents or parents at all. Now what do you think the normal reaction would be in that element if somebody takes those close friends which is all you have in this world and not only that they joke and kid about it? To top it off this element you live in will label you a punk because you did nothing about it. Now you’re pressured to go and slide on those people for revenge 1. Because it’s a normal reaction 2. You either do that or you get bullied and robbed for the rest of your life. Everything you say is evil and morbid is actually normal and rational. You do what you gotta do. After a while does that power and control and paranoia go to your head a bit? Of course but it’s all in the game. As Aavon barksdale said best “the game will always be the game”

I don't have much more to say than what others have already said, but I think that this is genuinely one of the most well-made and comprehensive documentaries based on investigative journalism I've ever seen. For me, the biggest captivators were a few things: 1. I listen to a lot of his music and putting the pieces from his lyrics together with what we know about his life is mind-blowing 2. Every single tweet had me with my eyes wide, jaw on the floor, and hands in the air. Being from inner-city Chicago, I never would've expected the homicide detectives to have been so bad at their jobs, but here we are.

He was most definitely a serial killer. The way he openly bragged about his bodies on Twitter and tweeted almost everyday about how much he loved to kill and how much he was out to shoot somebody, he had an infatuation with it. He put on a good mask with the calm and collected attitude he had, but that’s just like many other serial killers. He even saw himself as one. With basically 7 confirmed bodies, that’s definitely past the threshold to be considered one. He was methodical too, waking up first thing in the morning and roaming the streets for opps is not a normal thing to do, even as a gangmember. People around him were even freaked out by him, they saw him as the Devil.

But Slim was a killer who kid napped a dude, killed him, rapped about it and basically taunted his homies to put a hit on him. He was wrong and we were wrong for listening and living that street life. Now that I’m grown and married with a good job I can’t listen to rap that much because I know how destructive that lifestyle is for real. I had ran into Von in 2012-13 when I was at a restaurant on 64th Cottage Grove. He asked me for a few dollars and I said I didn't have it after he just watched me pay for my food. Then he was like I just watched you pay for your food tho? I said this isn't my money. Then he said "so what you gone do if I ran your pockets and took it". I ain't say shit then he starts circling me and sizing me up. I was definitely bigger than him, but I ain't do shit but step back and prep like he was tryna fight. The store owner finally comes out and yells at him to get out of his store. He stood there smiling for like 5 seconds and then was like "aight bet" and left the store. You could see him through the glass walk to the right, luckily I stayed to the left, so I left without getting my food and called my pops and told him what happened. My dad left and picked up the food. And that was that. I ran into him a few more times in the neighborhood because I always remembered his face but luckily he wasn't on bullshit then. Fast forward to like '19, my little brother's listening to Crazy Story by Von. I REALLY like the song so I add it to my playlist and start to really listen to this guy. I ended up watching The Before They Were Famous King Von Edition on YT, found out he was from down the street from me and when I saw his mugshot from 2014 in that video I immediately recognized him. He looked COMPLETELY DIFFERENT of course due to fame. I'm just glad today I wasn't on this list for a few dollars lol

It’s bc the typically internalize stuff, until pushed over the edge and it’s a different type of going off. I know bc I’m like that. Fortunately I grew up in a stable environment (even though parents divorced when I was young they were civil to each other and out me first), got an education, and developed emotional maturity and self control. This whole cycle that keeps repeating itself is so sad and frustrating to watch. It’s clear government and city officials don’t care about the people in these situations, but also that the ones who turn to this life make life much worse for those in the community (wouldn’t even call it a community) just trying to live and hopefully better their situation. But I can totally see how growing up in these conditions makes people turn out like this. Like no bs dudes like Von and Melly would have made great gang leaders/soldiers in Somalia

I think a lot of people haven't really taken notice of the fact that gang-based murders are rarely about carrying out gang business anymore, but almost exclusively about fun and retaliation for slights -- real or perceived. Well said, but I still disagree. Most serial killers pick random victims; Von had specific issues with these people. Von didnt seek out people who were defenseless to him, he made sure his enemies were playing the same game he was. So its hard for me to put King Von in the same box as Jeffrey Dahmer. Sorry chief 🪶

My boyfriend of almost 9 years lives this life. I kept telling him Karma will not let you escape your wrongs. Eventually karma is coming. On Christmas 2022 a car pulled up and shot him , his sister, and his cousin up while they were in my boyfriends car. This is the 4th separate incident he had been shot up. My boyfriend was shot in the head and has a very serious brain injury. He’s now permanently disabled and can’t walk. Mentally he’s not the same. He didn’t want to sit down, so god sat him down and made it to where he can’t any longer cause havoc in the streets. 😞 the streets don’t love you

The mothers are the ones perpetuating the actions of their sons. People like to pretend that these are simply innocent mothers who had their sons stray from the loving lessons they learned at home. In reality, the mothers are nothing more than female versions of the sons they raised (or failed to raise). They're teenage hoodrats that enjoy the "clout" they gain from having their sons active in the same gangs they grew up in. These mothers should be jailed for what they're doing to society, not pitied. They are equal parts in this problem.

That's the one thing that bothered me. Von wasn't just a hood dude who made it out, he was according to his own words a savage killer and that he's beat murder charges. This guy wasn't just given an opportunity to change, he was given a miracle blessing despite all the evil stuff he did and he still messed it up. Nobody would've blamed Von for taking a step back after all he did for his gang. People like Von are unique though no matter how much money they have they still move like a savage. He was always going to end up dead or in prison and as crazy as it is, he might've gotten out easy compared to Muwop and the others. Those guys are in their early to mid 20's and will probably serve 50+ years in Federal Prison before they die in their 70's.
