Burns! He was stately and beautiful and he knew it! That chest was up and proud while he was prancing! I love that he photo bombed the winner! Notice the judge looked right at Burns after he chose the winner. This was rigged. They need a judge that isn't partial to one breed like he is.

I would like to know specifically why Burns didn't conform well enough in the judges opinion. I've seen no concrete explanation of it. This with the fact that the Wire Fox Terrier wins so much of the time seems suspicious.

To your points Piggy and Ryan. Even at this level, bias rules, when judging. A judge has an affinity for a particular breed- and if he/she likes what he sees in the ring- there is no getting around it. I remember this as an ongoing concern for many years- and will continue for many more. My first experience with this " bias" was when Josh won best in show, and was determined the judge had judged Josh numerous times previous- always winning...and I thought " that seems odd". Now, I really don't know how to get around it.

All the judges have experience in breeding and specific types, so what do you suggest? Inexperienced people? Or someone who's bred every single breed of dog in existence? There's no way of finding a perfect judge or whatever it is you want. My breed (Boston Terrier) has never won their class for as long as I've been watching, but I don't see the need to complain about the judge and wonder why they never had a Boston breeder as a judge. I just accept it and move on with my life.

I would have to agree with you, because I too think that It was Rigged, I think that All Big Event Shows, Like, "Kid's Choice", "Teen Choice", "Emmy's", "Grammy's", "Oscars" (I'm not talking about a certain a Green Sesame Street Muppet), "Tony's", etc, etc, is all Rigged. I too think that Long-Haired Dachshund should've won, because It was just so cute and Adorable, also wasn't there supposed to be 7 dogs instead of 6, What's up with that?.

It would have been nearly impossible to find a judge that would be completely non biased towards a breed or group. Judges tend to be former or current owners, breeders and handlers themselves. That expertise makes them great judges, but it also the chance to be biased to a breed or group because they've shown a dog or shown several dogs in a group. It would be the same argument if a judge who had experience in Hound breeds to have picked a Hound dog. That's why a breed also has a standard to go by. If there is doubt that the Wire Hair won out of favoritism rather then being the dog that most closely matches its standard, it can be challenged.

Judges have to pass exams on the standards of over 200 different breeds. He is a certified expert on all breeds and is supposed to be impartial!

Dog shows are like human beauty shows-the results are purely subjective depending on the individual judge’s discretion. It is not like a TIMED event where the winner comes in first! There will always be differences of opinion as to which dog deserved to win!

I am not English, but I love your contests (In france, this type of competition don't exist) ! I do not know the victory criteria either, but for me, Avanese and Dachshund were the best, in all the point of view. I understand that the Avanese won a secondary prize, but I do not understand that the Dachshund did not win the Grand Price. I had a Terrier, and he had a hair that was less rough than the winner (which looked like straw), and it was a tough hair as the winner. For me, the Terrier is too skinny comapred to the standard of the breed. If they absolutely wanted to crown a short hair, I do not understand why they did not choose the Boxer. Avanese and Dachshund were exactly what you expect from a long hair, just like their steps that were sublime. Keeping the head straight, without the masters being obliged to raise it every ten seconds. So for me : -Avanese 19/20 -Dachshund 18/20 -Bouvier / Boxer 16/20 -Long hair king 12/20 -Terrier 9/20

Seriously, the breeders of Golden Retrievers should boycott this event in the future. Over the years there have been numerous outstanding Goldens, but no Golden Retriever has ever won best in show at Westminster. Not even Gold Rush Charlie. How political is this dog show business, and can someone tell me why Goldens have never won? They are one of the most popular breeds in the country. It's nonsense. the judges for the most part, look like a bunch of snooty old crabasses. Goldens should boycott Westminster.

As a Golden owner (amongst other breeds), I understand what you're saying. But popularity does not translate to Best in Show. I do agree that there have been many fine Goldens over the years... but I've also seen many fine (insert breed here).. that have not won. It becomes a personal preference thing here... and while I agree that a Golden should have won @ least once, it will take the "mother of all perfect Golden's" and the perfect judge, to make this happen.

Yes, Piggy Girl, agree ...it seemed a repeat of circumstances of the 1994 show when AKC Judge Walter Goodman, a world-renowned breeder-owner-handler of Skye Terriers and big-time Terrier judge was announced … I liked Walter, he was a friend, I've sailed with him, but when I heard his name I said to myself, "ok, here comes a BIS Terrier win." It happened, BIS went to a black-and-tan Norwich Terrier. Anyone remember Ch. Chidley Willum The Conqueror? No matter the Doxie love Tuesday, this show I was for the Boxer.

It seemed like the judge slurred his words, talked a bit drunkenly, kissed on the lips and even tripped a bit. I don't know, just my opinion but he seemed a bit inebriated to me.

Can someone explain why the Frenchie in the non-sporting class was not the winner in the class when the winner of the class was declared ineligible? Was the Frenchie not the best ELIGIBLE dog in the class? And why was the ineligibility not discover prior to the judging? I found this to be very unfair; and perhaps it appears to have possibly been more. Bad for the Westminister!

When the handler of the Wire Fox Terrler first came out, the woman judge leaned in close & said; "Congratulations!" I thought - Why is she congratulating him ? Then I thought- If HE ends up winning the Terrier class, then somthing is "fishy." But, he ended up winning Best in Show!! THATS, What she was congratulating him for!!!

Wow, these commenters obviously have no idea how dog shows work. It's not a beauty pageant, or a personality or popularity contest. The judge has to judge how well the dog conforms to the breed standard. This involves feeling the dog's conformation, looking in its mouth and judging its movement. You can't do that from the bleachers. Also, every dog judge began with one breed, which perhaps led to judging one particular group. They would not put their judging credentials on the line by favouring the group they began with... that would jeopardise any future judging appointments. Calm down, casuals!

+kandilula Deary I'm a dog show person. I show Dachshunds. Believe you me yes judges do show favoritism when picking winners. Some even award the win to their friends or always give the win to the Pros. Their credentials aren't on the line as no one can really prove that that's what they did LOL.
