The Band Of Hawks only mission was to get Griffith his kingdom. The betrayal came with him misleading them to believing they were going to be part of his kingdom, not a sacrifice.

I still hope that one of his assisstants will finish it. They can draw in his style and the story is probably already written. I mean, it was always so well planned, i'm sure that Miura had the ending in mind. Let's hope the others can do know the rest, even without him. Fans won't like it, of course, but i still think, it would be better then leaving it unfinished. I'm not asking for a happy ending, where everything goes as it should be and everybody is kinda happy. I need a real ending, cause the tragedy is in Guts' veins. This, where is it left just cannot be the end of this story.
