I used to not be a big fan of this song. Metallica even got me started on guitar. This was never on my radar. 25 years later I am extremely disappointed I never tried to learn this. I learned all of One, Fade to Black, not this one. It's one of my favorites now

Love this song, It's a powerful song about a very dark subject. If you just had the lyrics and no music, it would be poetic, the music is just powerful. Metallica was just on another level from bands at their time, even now you can listen to their music and feel the subject of their words. I have often called them the heavy metal Beatles, just so much depth to their music. If you just listen to the music, it's powerful and driving, if you just read the lyrics it's poetic, combined they are deep.

Aside from a very short period when they were starting out, they had Dave Mustaine from Megadeth on guitars, but since then, they've had the same lead guitarist, drummer and vocalist/rhythm guitarist for their entire run of 40-odd years. Bassist changes occasionally.

@@Atataititrebuisateuiti look, I'll admit that I've completely avoided Metallica since I tried listening to Load, in order not to be further disappointed. Metallica is the band that got me into metal, and therefore ALL the music I listen to these days, so Load was a pretty serious blow to me. They may be better now, and their live performances are still gold, although seeing Kirk with white hair was a shock.

They're not overtly religious, it's just that the bible holds a lot of imagery just tailor-made for metal. Usually just OT stuff, back when God was more vengeful than forgiving.
