I think the hip hop landscape was a lot different back then, there wasn't really anything in the mainstream that sounded like yeezus, and coming from kanyes earlier work, it was jarring. It took me multiple play throughs and then suddenly every track was hitting for me, once I'd gotten used to the soundscape of the album, I could appreciate the album clearly.
