In regards to Meet The Grhams vs Family Matters discourse: While both tracks lie, I think it's about how the lie is used that makes it two different things. FM lies but it doesn't make a big deal out of it, MTG is built around the daughter reveal and I think should be penalized if that daughter reveal feels weak. I still think MTG is great in terms of what the purpose of the song is and the character analysis that it does on Drake, however, partly bc I hold kendrick to a different standard than I do drake (in the same way that a bad game for LeBron is not the same than a bad game for the average all star) I don't think MTG ages as gracefully as every other kendrick song.
@Goated_Durk
@Goated_Durk 19 күн бұрын
@KingBenny To defend MTG, he could either know that he actually has a daughter, or he's making an assumption about him having another child due to his past with p*stars. Also, there has been some research showing that Kendrick's claim could be true. (Also the daughter could be a metaphor but I doubt it)

@@medbeth9857there’s 3 verses on FM. there was no disregard of those allegations lol. I just think that MTG could've been more effective or just cut out the section of the daughter entirely and has aged the worst of at least all of the kendrick songs in the sense of it not holding the weight that it did the night that it dropped when everyone did believe that drake was hiding another child. *Extremely hypocritical* to say "Meet the Grahams" aged the worst because of the unproven daughter verse and then LIE that "Family Matters" aged the best when *nothing* Drake said about Kendrick - him beating his fiancée, or her sleeping around and having a kid with his friend, have been proven. This video seems to fall right in line with the new narrative of pretending that "Family Matters" aged well when we ALL know that it didn't.
@KingBenny

Timestamp when I said Family Matters aged best? I legit said it wasn't even Drake's best song. But anyways, the reason why MTG ages worse is bc the daughter thing is supposed to be the gotcha. Great video! 1. Hip hop was never dying, slowing down yes, but would never die. 2. MTG did exactly want it was supposed to do, step on Family Matters with truth and/or lies and that’s okay because it’s hip hop. Rappers are known to lie about their lifestyle, money, crime, etc. 3. This things about a song “aging badly” is a crazy take and takes away from hip hop being about storytelling when we start dissected truth vs lies. This battle was not just about one song but about strategy.

Did you actually say Family Matters was one of the greatest diss tracks of all time? Quitter by Eminem or Mr Me Too by The Clipse are better diss tracks and they're not even well known diss tracks in mainstream hip hop. Family Matters was a decent diss track at best. The fact that people still remember so many lines from Euphoria, 6:16 in LA, Meet The Grahams and Not Like Us says everything about how sub par Family Matters was as a diss track because most people maybe remember 2-3 lines at best from that entire song. It's usually the intro and that Kendrick/Grammy line. Then he still thought he could beat Kendrick, a MC who shook the entire hip hop world with his Control verse over a decade ago and since the start of his career has told us many times he will destroy your favorite rapper if he has to. So no Drake would've NEVER EVER EVER beaten a Pullitzer price winner and one the best and most respected lyricists like Kendrick Lamar when Drake couldn't even beat Pusha T in a rap battle or had any response for The Story of Adidon besides his album Scorpion which UMG really pushed down people's throats on Spotify for months.

The song peaked at #7 and fell off the charts while Not Like Us, Like That, and Euphoria were all still in the Top 40 weeks after the beef. The streams are weak. Even Euphoria has more than double its streams (317mil vs. 129mil). Some people say it's the best song from the beef, but clearly that isn't the case because not even his fans are listening to it. They're just trying to throw Drake a bone. FM was good, but nowhere near the greatest, even within the beef

"I think this song (Meet The Grahams) is probably the worst-aged of all the songs from the beef" My guy, Drake pulled some allegations out of his *ass* in Family Matters. As Kendrick was saying, some people from OVO gave him info. At least he bothered enough to get his information from a credible source, while Drake did not Sure, that line aged terribly, but Family Matters was just Drake straight-up lying or making up serious accusations (Slight edit: Kendrick is probably not close to retiring. The whole point of Mr. Morale And The Big Steppers is Kenny saying he doesn't want people to *act as if* he's the savior of Hip-hop. He's more than open to make a difference and lead the genre in a good path, but he doesn't want to feel solely responsible for it)

Personally, I think MTG's lie was different than FM's lies. Where FM uses the lie in a more traditional way to how diss records usually lie, my problem with MTG is how Kendrick lies. If Kendrick kept it to the "don't have a kid to have a kid to have a kid" then I'd be fine even if it were a lie because it's not a big deal, it can be looked over and it's not that deep. Kendrick very clearly wanted to expose drake with the daughter shit rather than clown on him. The only disses that he makes throughout that entire verse are disses that only hit if they were true, and since they're not it's hard to ignore. I think FM works despite the lie bc of the type of lie that it is, it's quick and drake uses them to set up Kendrick. However, when I think they stop working is when The Heart Pt. 6 drops and he's trying to expose Kendrick and doubles down on the allegations which we know aren't true. Sometimes you can lie and get away with it and sometimes you look stupid for doing so

Meet the Grahams is not badly aged. It was not simply strategy, it was retaliation: "Don't tell no lies about me and i won't tell truths about you." Drake slandered Kendrick in FM and was thereby spanked and humiliated. By the way, no song that says "rapping like you trying to get the slaves freed" can ever count as one of the greatest diss tracks of all time. If anything it is a sign that we allowed some people to become too comfortable in our culture. Meet the Grahams is mostly accurate. If the one part about the daughter is inaccurate due to faulty intelligence collection it is only a slight error. Drake has other kids. The woman he settled the SA case with has a son that looks exactly like Drake did at that age. She also previously stated in interviews that he is the one that got her pregnant. Before any of this open beef. MTG is accurate even if the girl turns out not to be Drake's; he has kids that he hides, be sure of it. I can admit that the reason why I laughed off and still laugh off the whole “hip hop is dead” thing is because I personally found stuff I liked within the space of hip hop closer to what Tyler and Denzel occupy, and that is also why I’m glad you brought up Chromakopia. I think and hope that we can expect more artists at least taking albums that seriously as we approach the end of the year.

Yeah but the way I'm looking at it is more so from an effectiveness stand point MTG aged the worst bc on the da that it dropped MTG felt like a top 5 diss track all time just bc of how true it was, you take away that truth and it isn't as effective personally. Like if story of addidon wasn't true it wouldn't hit as hard.
@KingBenny
@KingBenny 19 күн бұрын
You can't tell me you think MTG is just as hard the day that it came out compared to now... that's all I'm saying. I'm cool with lies, but in MTG the daughter reveal was very clearly not an attempt to clown on drake rather than expose drake. Like had he said you have a daughter in the same way he said drake is a pedophile on not like us then it's fine bc it's a lie that's dunking on drake
@stlgardener6122

@KingBenny u know that even to this day, they claim she really exists. But the same can be said about the things Aubrey said in Family Matters. And MTGs is a bit to harsh for me to listen to. @TMan10103 18 күн бұрын
No one ever disproved the daughter thing btw. Drakes daughter was reported to be TWO years old in 2015. How old did Kendrick says Drakes daughter was? Eleven. She would be eleven today. His claim lines up with previous daughter allegations on Drake. Clearly he didn't pull this out of thin air. He also said Drake didn't CLAIM the daughter. Meaning Drake never wanted to prove that it was his. So of course Drake was going to deny. Yet kendrick was going to win with pedo allegations anyways, he wasn't going to throw another hardcore allegation on Drake to make himself look good. Why would he lie if he knew people were going to call it a lie. He only said it because he knows something we don't. He wasn't going to taint his diss track with a false claim and he wasn't going to make himself look deceitful by writing a whole verse to an imaginary daughter. He would never go that far for a lie especially when he already had Pedo allegations and Not Like Us in the tuck. There was no reason to create a fake daughter unless it was true
@Goated_Durk
@Goated_Durk 19 күн бұрын
Push ups is one of the worst diss tracks of all time this is what glaze really is. The whole joke is over a jail workout Kendrick did on IG, it's not deep enough compared to anything Kendrick released. Also people have researched the whole Drake daughter thing, and it's definitely possible. (Especially with all the ****stars he gets with)
@KingBenny
@KingBenny 19 күн бұрын
Drop and gimme 50 is a double entendre referring to Kendrick having a bad contract but also... drop and gimme 50 is objectively a good diss in terms of clowning on someone. For what it was not everything needs to be deep to be good (Hit Em Up, No Vaseline, etc.)
@Goated_Durk
@Goated_Durk 19 күн бұрын
@KingBenny yeah but there wasn't necessarily anything to special about the drop and give me 50, especially since it's hard to understand to a casual listener who may not know either of those things and is like "okay, but what does this have to do with anything?" It feels too on the nose, and the joke itself isn't that impressive for me to consider it a good diss. The reason I hate it so much is that it's trying to be something it's not. It's like he wants to dig deeper into Kendrick but he can't think of anything. He saved what little material he had for Family Matters, which is still just filled with lies. I don't think there's a way Drake could've won this beef. There isn't enough on Kendrick. The wife beating stuff wasn't even something the public wasn't aware of, and is seemingly disproven. I think Cole backing out was the best move, and Drake had to learn the hard way. Honestly with a past as controversial as Drake's, I'm surprised he didn't back out after realizing Kenny had nothing on him. Just some food for though.

Besides the beef, what else happened to save hip hop? No new rappers have popped. The only big rap songs were "not like us". This aint got nothing on 2008-2012. That era saved hip hop when nas declared it dead in 06. It wasnt this big rap beef needed to grab attention. Rappers made better songs and that was how they grabbed attention. So no, this year didnt save hip hop. It just gave us a good rap beef.

I would definitely say that 2024 saved hip hop in a big way, because in addition to the hip hop Civil War bringing back competition, a lot of the greats came back like a fothermucker! Redman came back, LL Cool J came back, even Will Smith came back! Redman got a posse cut on his album, featuring some of the greatest rappers to ever come out of New Jersey, including Queen Latifah! And that's on top of all of the albums mentioned in this video.

@@KingBenny that's cool .. this is an honest and respectful suggestion .. i'd say you should check out the battles between Beanie Sigel vs Jadakiss, Jadakiss vs 50 Cent, 50 Cent/G Unit vs Ja Rule/ Murda Inc, Canibus vs LL Cool J, Game Vs 50 Cent, Lil Kim vs Foxy Brown, Nelly Vs KRS-One, Dr Dre Vs Eazy-E, KRS-One Vs MC Shan, Kurupt Vs DMX, DMX Vs Ja Rule, Eminem Vs ANYONE lol just some suggestions to broaden your Hip-Hop knowledge in famous Rap Battles .. some of them might not have been "mainstream" but ALL of them were absolutely big and important in the CULTURE 💯

the Lord asked "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? It was K-dot said, Here am I; send me. And he said, "Go, and say to this people: "'Keep on hearing, but do not understand; keep on seeing, but do not perceive.' Make the heart of this people dull, and their ears heavy, and blind their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed." "How long, O Lord?" Till the party dies.

2024 was the year Megan kicked off the diss track trend, Kendrick took down emo trap Goliath, everyone wanted to be from Compton and hip hop attempted to throw out all the culture vultures and clout chasers, including Ak's ass. It was a good ass year!

What do you want me to say? It's not like I was praising the heart pt 6 or whatever. I said push-ups and family matters are objectively good disses (which they are) that's all the praise I had for drake in this video. How does that make me a stan?

as long as sociertal problems are alive, as long as racism is alive, as long as discrimination is alive, as long as poverty is a recurent theme in minority neighborhoods, and all the other themes that have been crucial in the history of hip-hop, HIP-HOP WILL NEVER DIE.
