@3:32 the trick here is to call the broker for the load, after looking at the load and sizing it up by weight. example If the load is 4 pallets and 2k box for example that can go into a BOX truck with ease. A 26ft BOX is just about half the size of a 53' VAN so call and ask if you think you can carry it. They will only say yes or no ;)

USDOT/MC $300, BOC-3 (varies), UCR, Insurance $1500-$2500/mo for new drivers who are young and no experience. IFTA-taxes due quarterly, IRP, 2290. That truck you buy needs a DOT inspection before you hit the road and every year. Record keeping, you WILL get audited by FMCSA as a new carrier…not if.. you Will. Do your homework. Be prepared. If you don’t you’re going to flush a lot of money down the drain.

It’s good to have a trailer if you can get one. With a trailer you have both options. You can park the trailer run power only or run loads with a trailer. Without a trailer you limited to just power only.

very good video! i didnt know how this was done. you mentioned a few times "if you are a new authority" 1. how do they know how old your authority is? 2. how long or how much experience is needed before your authority is no longer considered new? 3. will your insurance requirements go down over time as well? 4. what kind/type of insurance is needed(maybe a vid on that)? 5 there are insurance minimums no doubt. what is a good realistic amount of coverage? 6. Have you ever heard of discounts if you run a dash cam to prevent accident scam payments? corresponding numbered answers would be appreciated. 7. is it wise to negotiate delay fees if you get to destination A on time but they wait 2hrs to unload you which makes you late to destination B for your next load or does type thing exist? newbie here... 1) your MC number says date your authority was issued 2)1 year 3-5) requirements is 1 million liability 100,000 cargo minimum currently. this has a history of going up in amounts over time and some insurers do offer discount with dash cams. Your rates will go down if you have a good track record and your authority ages.7)this is called detention pay and starts after 2 hours, rates vary from 25 hr and up.

If you know the cost of fuel, miles driven and time that it will take you to run a load, that is how you negotiate the price. You CAN'T BE RUNNING AROUND FREIGHT FOR LESS THAN $3.00 PER MILE. PERIOD. If you do run for less than $3.00, you will be out of business in a month.
