from my barebones understanding of it, the duel arena was a specific instance created by jagex which was argued to be an unlicensed casino whereas deathmatching is the players themselves creating the opportunity so therefore not on the behalf of jagex. from my perspective, it seems that jagex is ok with it since they even implemented the duel arena in the first place, but to save their own skin in court, they had to remove it.

When I moved to OSRS it was a huge switch and your videos, particularly on bossing, have been some of the most helpful things ive experienced in any game to date. When it comes to RWT on a large scale it's just a constant buying and selling and passing off to make half a penny a mil. The bans are imminent and they know they're coming which is why they use low value accounts. You just hope you don't get caught holding the bag when the ban hits. The end consumer is almost never punished.

Yeah, they had to get rid of the duel arena because they were starting to catch shit about how it was basically enabling children to gamble, and gambling is illegal to minors in the UK. It was brought up in the UK parliament if I remember correctly. It was easier for them to just get rid of it once people outside started to learn how much of a problem it was.
