You're average player appealing these bans don't have thousands of subscribers thats why we only see content creators and how they go about filing appeals. @@cosanostra4229yes I have! I was on a break from the game in 2018 and got pinged that my password was changed in my email. Tried logging into the game, unable to password was changed. Went to the website and did a pw recovery. Got it back, logged in and was at the ge with some items in my inv. Got kicked off the account. Recovered again, logged in, then got booted off tried to recover and the account was locked from further pw changes. Hacker was logged in still. Reached out to Jagex about a lost/stolen account and it gave me to option to list reasons it was mine. Got the account back and unlocked within 3 days. I imagine these bans/false bans would have similar outcomes. Also in the 2008 era my account got turned into a green dragon bot and was banned, I tried to get it back and it got unbanned quickly as well.

As much as I want to give Jagex the benefit of the doubt for them to genuinely believe only 38 accounts were wrongfully banned, since there are so many scams and bots in this game.... I watched my buddy play the entire 2-3 hours on his fresh account (new player as well) made in 2024, wrongfully banned the same night and appeal denied.

They use profiling over Java logs which gives like 99.5% chance of bot and then probably just check original IP and player IP, whether email and pass are generated or genuine. Most of my accounts last far longer after temp ban though because you need a true manual ban for your second one.

I was false perm banned on my f2p uim with 2.2k hours on it at the time in 2021. Took 9 days of 2 tweets a day to mod twisted. And he unbanned me. But just recently 2 days ago during the bot busting bullshit. My main with over 10k hours on it between the rs3 side and osrs of my account. Thank God it was a temp so I can still play. But now I'm going to tweet mod twisted yet again for prob even longer than 9 days. I don't enjoy seeing a mark on my account for a complete bogus ban. And should not fear my account being permed if they slip up again. All in all shit company

transparency is key for things like this, looking forward to what ACT can reveal later. Confirmation of reports would be a good one. Showing what got you banned would be another. If Jagex did those two then we probably would not hear 90% of the chatter we do

The problem with them revealing exactly what got you banned is that it'll show botters what to avoid doing. For example, a botter can make an autoclicker with a degree of randomness. Jagex shouldn't be able to detect that, right? Well, Jagex is able to compare their clicks over a period of time to a human's. Even with a random variable, it typically averages out to a certain point. I'm sure Jagex has so many data models that botters wouldn't even consider. By showing that to banned botters, it tells them "hey here's what not to do".

So i'm not really on either side of the "false bans". But the numbers they mentioned don't seem to quite add up to me. So if they banned 6.9m bots with a false positive rate of 0.36% that'd mean roughly 23,000 players were false banned which is 63 players a day being false banned. Yet they claim that only 38 people have been false banned this year over like 7 weeks, which would mean they only have .77 false bans per day (roughly) which would equate to a total of 283 false positives on the year with a false positive rate of about 0.00004%. Also they said they are banning roughly 67,000 per week since 2024 which 67,000 x 0.36% is 241 false bans a week So either they suddenly dropped their false positive rate significantly, or these numbers just don't make sense. Or there is gonna be a large un-ban wave soon? Unless i'm missing something there?

Never an issue until I make an ironman, only change in play style was multi-logging (1 acc on jagex client, my main on runelite), boom "ban" on main, despite always having played on that. Ive had times where iplayed mobile while i worked 12 hours a day, came home, and played for 8 more hours only logging for the nerd log, food, and a shower, and sleep. I did this for weeks and have never been flagged for a ban. Im willing to bet every one of the people claiming false bans, including content creators, have at least dipped their toes in botting, cheat clients, or rwt. Jagex has their ways of detecting this stuff and its pretty easy for them to tell when they look over the data. Whether they actually look at the data or turn a blind eye for some creators is a differnt story.

Here is the thing, they said that only 0.36% of bans are quashed, that is a very deceiving statistic considering that that is a percentage of all bans not appealed bans. I've never been banned, but i'm pretty sure there is no formal appeal process for being banned, in that case the only way they're quashing bans are via social media posts. In that case, of course only 0.36% of bans are quashed, they probably only reviewed 5% of total bans at most. As a percentage, that would now be 7.2% of account appeals quashed. The statistic they should give and that would actually be very useful would be the percentage of social media appeals that where quashed, i am sure that would be a lot higher. Another thing, is how do they verify if a ban was correct/incorrect? A lot of time on social media, you just see them reply that the "ban was correct" with no additional evidence being provided (e.g. autoclicking, RWT, etc.). I highly doubt most of these mods reviewing these social media appeals are actually investigating anything. It seems that Jagex is assuming that their statistical anti cheat models are 100% correct, and as a statistician, i know for a fact that these things often have surprisingly large margins of error (that can't actually be measured directly only estimated poorly).

I think, when Jagex bans a player, they should tell the player what exactly the player did to get banned. Not just a vague statement like "banned for botting", but say exactly when the player was botting, which activity the player was botting etc. If Jagex has the evidence, I can't see any reason not to be specific. When settled started his new series he created a shit load of accounts and got banned for it. Settled was able to get the ban lifted because, well, he's settled, Jagex love his ass. But if that happened to me, I bet the ban would have been final because I'm not a well known creator. But I could be just as innocent as settled, I could have a valid reason for making loads of accounts. And I doubt it's against the rules to simply make hundreds of accounts and pay Jagex for hundreds of bonds. Sure, there could be nefarious reasons to make loads of accounts. But Jagex should first ascertain which of those bad things the player is up to, and ban the player for that offense, when the player has actually committed the offense. All members are paying customers and should be treated accordingly.

This doesn't make sense. So 0.36% of appeals so far in 2024 leads to bans being quashed, which given their weekly ban rate should equate to about 2,000 accounts with bans reversed. But then they go on to state that only 38 accounts had been banned incorrectly. So which is it? I mean out of 6.9 million bans in 2023, a false ban hit of 0.36% would still lead to a rate of about 25,000 falsely banned accounts. Now 6.9 million accounts may seem significant, but bots are pumping out dozens if not hundreds of accounts at a time, something the average legitimate player isn't doing. So if it's as high as 25 thousand false bans against legitimate players it would be concerning. And what's the bet that out of those 38 reversed false bans, the majority of those are from people either within the content creator community or with a direct link of communication to Jagex staff member. This entire post seems like sugar coating, it isn't good enough.

I quit for around 2-3 years not having any hopes or desire to play video games again & osrs being the main one. Came back sometime around June or something of 2022 & was banned around September of 2022. So not that long after I had just got started playing on my account again & rebuilding. So, I never had that big of a bank on OSRS. But when I played, even some of my friends who would log-on would be like "you're still on?!" I spent every waking second gaining xp or doing some kind of thing to advance my character in OSRS. I loved that game. I was shown it by some friends and stuff but I never really had access to it at the time. So I had to come over to my friends house (2 different friends actually) and I got to play (not all the time) lol. I loved that game. When I started to be able to get my own account when I was older in my 20's lol.. I went ham. Never botted, knew / know how.. Still 'til this day, don't care. I got banned not too long after starting to re-build on my account, all I did was cut magic logs from the start, did some barrows, did some bandos. Got some decent cash to do Sara in GWD & that's when I started to get temp. banned & then ultimately perm. banned. Like for no reason dude. I grinded out like 800 - 1k sara kc in about a week, all legit. I mean if you seen the laptop im playing on it's a joke. It's an old gateway which doesn't work unless it's plugged into the wall, years old missing a button you could search the thing from top to bottom I gaurantee you can't find any 3rd party software it's not possible cuz I never had any anyone could say that but, really as someone who loved all the details of that game & everything else.. i was a big xbox player growing up but i've never cheated on games or would even think of getting some kind of cheating device or something like that to cheat in video games. Because in xbox or in Halo, which is what I used to like to play.. there are a lot of glitches. Even Skate 2. I loved skate 2 😳. There were so many glitches. It made it so fun. There were glitches or "cheating" you could say that you could take advantage of, but it wasn't really cheating. Cheating would be something like aim-bots, or hacking I guess. I never had the knowledge about any of this cheating crap people did. There were super bounces that used to get you on top of the map, I liked to do those i never spent any time downloading cheating software or 3rd party software or anytime spent learing about any of it. I don't even care for that kind of stuff. I had a friend who ran a computer shop i was thankful to know who was able to put a 'clip-grab' app. on my laptop which i was able to copy links or basically songs onto this app & it would put it on my computer & that was all I used it for was music. Otherwise I had no way of getting anything on my computer / laptop they're trying to say I have 3rd party software on cuz I've almost mever bothered with that laptop and honestly only had it to play OSRS. Not to bot it. I only had / only ever had one account. And I never even had that much money ever, or any crazy amounts of xp in any skill?? before I got banned was probably the most I can say I ever had & it was getting close to 100m forsure cuz this time I felt like I definitely earned it because it was all me, no one helping or anyone online i knew, just me. And it felt good. Got hella drops on a slayer task @ zammy which was soo nice got like 3 spears or something I was loving it. My experience / time back on osrs was almost better than ever, then get banned.

TL;DR: They're full of it. False bans are a thing and admitting it loses them credibility. Having said that. This experiences comes from RS3 not OSRS. There was a plethora of reasons i switched from RS3 to OSRS. The last Leagues being when I finally called it quits. I had like a dozen god/meow named accounts similar to Meowthix. Zameorwak, Saradomeowin, Armeowdyl, ETC; Would hop between them and play casually just because why not. Woke up one day to 10 of them (including some ironmen) just randomly banned. 3 or 4 of which I probably hadn't touched in a month. This was like half a year ago now so sorry i cant remember the numbers accurately. Was told I was macroing/using a third party app. Which I will defend to my grave I had not. I had botted ONCE in my life back in like 2006 to high lach some yew longs while I was at school and I was so scared my account would be banned I never did it again. Nowadays it's a morale compass thing. None of them had insane stats or GP to any degree nor had I done any cross trading outside of giving them an initial 1m each to afford some F2P gear/upgrades as they played. They false ban a shitton of F2P players because they dont pay for the game and until I see "data" that says otherwise i'm not changing my mind. I've heard plenty of similar stories from people. Cant verify whether or not they were actually using some kind of bot or not but a couple of them i'd be hardpressed to believe. One of them was a dude with like 10 accounts all maxxed that just. REALLY no-lifed RS3 and I know for a fact he just no-lifed it hard. I've also had chats with RS3 gold farmers and stuff that can confirm that F2P accounts just randomly get false-banned even if they haven't been botting (they weren't defending themselves. I've been playing like 20+ years i've got a whole host of people on my friends list.) Before anyone says. No. I've never bought gold from them. Again i've just met my fair share of players and made plenty of friends across my lifetime worth of playing the game. Edit: It was on official client (jagex launcher. No RWT. Relatively new gaming laptop. No autoclickers or anything. I could see an argument made for shift tab switching between screens quickly + lag (i really dont have the best internet living in the mountains) making it look suss but. They were genuinely perma false bans. Again though. This was RS3 not OSRS. I haven't had ANY issues with the better game.

I can clearly tell false ban are a thing, I mean i got locked out my account for 48h for ''macroing'' like they say, then after that 48h I try to log back in and im perm banned, simple solution is to look at the log of my character, they said i macroed right after i got unlocked from the 48h but then they could bring up what time i did try to log in and they will see their system is trash....actually did try to appeal and its a automated message

Im on the false ban list. Me and like 6 other people (so far that I've talked to) get rwt bans for swapping within the last week (personally caught a buying for receiving 200m osrs after trading 2b rs3 from the same account name) Appeal denied, not the first time swapping and far from the largest swap I've done.

It's a little jarrying how they say "false bans" in quotes implying sarcasm as it is no such thing that exists. but then go to say that "almost all" implying there is some actual real false bans and then they double down and say yeah sometimes we do mess up and revert it. so i don't think their statement made any difference since they contradicted themselves, they just said we collect all this evidence and apply the bans manually,(releastically speaking the super obvious botting like making a new account on the sdame ip as a previous account that was banned for botting is automatically another ban) yet despite all that work some bans are also reverted. so if they hoped to squash all these fake ban posts on social media, this statement did nothing.

The argument that it's "just impossible to go through X bans per day" is always such a lazy excuse to me, there's a clear difference between the false positives and the majority of suicide-bots, this is why you'd prioritize by a lot of metrics when going through daily, rather than just treating everyone equal, because their time investment is not equal.

I can give 8 alts I've used only to collect ge limits of items for collections and bulk supplies via regular rs client and all manually that received false macro major bans and appeals auto denied within 2min of each other. 2 this year, 6 in 2021 got banned. Thor from PirateSoftware goes into pretty good detail about this actually. The sooner after a detectable bot action that a bot is banned, the easier it is for a bot maker to develop their way around it. As such, the most effective way to deal with bots is in ban waves. This leaves bot makers guessing as to what it was that got their bot detected. If a bot was banned IMMEDIATELY upon being detected as a bot, bot makers would immediately know what behaviors are getting the bots flagged, and would therefore just change the bot behavior to not do that. It's better to let a bot survive for a while so that it's harder to guess what caused the detection. Additionally, Jagex published their numbers. They banned 6.9 million bots in 2023. That's 34 times the all time peak number of players. That's 575,000 per month, 18,904 per day. The bots just spring up too quickly, and there's no permanent or immediate solution.

Jagex was lacking due to bots having top positions on leaderboards for gwd kc, zulrah and vorkath kc despite me personally reporting these bots for weeks on end. I'm not sure how the bots are monitored at bosses currently. I don't care if people want to auto click their magic level or w/e but it is a problem when there are hundreds of bots farming the same content making it impossible for real players to play the content. The only way jagex can ever win this war is to do what is really unpopular which is removing free trade as there would be no way to buy the gold if free trade is removed and anything short of this is just delaying the botting effort but jagex simply aren't fast enough to act so even if every account makes $0.50 per month profit it's still worth to scale the operation to thousands and farm content. For jagex to not remove free trade and combat botting they would need to act way way way faster on flagged accounts which would require actual devs to be hired to review accounts and of course this isn't going to happen.

I haven't played in 3-4 years, was watching some OSRS videos today and decided to log in. Turns out my account is permanently banned for macroing with some software lol. Last time i played all i did was log in buy enough bones to get to 99 prayer, from 90 something and got idk 2-3 levels and didn't play again, before that i didn't play since like 2017 or something. I have appealed but i'm not hopeful after some googling seems to be tons of people banned for the same thing when they haven't played, even a lot of people who play RS3 only have been banned for OSRS macroing.

I've been reporting vorkath bots for a month. I regularly check up on them and they literally never get banned. As an experiment I used an autoclicker to alch on a new accou t. That account got banned in 2 days. It seems to me way too much of the "fodder" bots get banned like bits at LMS. While bots with 30k vorkath kills and nothing else "Leslye Chow" < rsn example, just keep on doing whatever they want. Way toooooo much focus in lesser bots that have a minimal effect on the economy
