Back in 2002, the website for kingdom hearts had this playing in the background with the original dark blue artwork. You could click on the different worlds, see a little blurb about the world and see (for example) Alice, or Maleficent. I knew nothing about the game, had gotten it for free with a gift card from the Disney store, and exploring that website with this incredibly dark music was terrifically memorable.

Looking at the other final worlds, none of them really capture what the Kingdom Hearts series actually is. Sure, some of them were impressive, but they seem more like penultimate areas. In other words, they are more like Hollow Bastion from the first game. Meanwhile, this world sheds some light on what the Heartless are along with their motives. The fact that you could revisit worlds and even see the remains of the worlds consumed by the darkness captures the spirit of the franchise. It really merges Disney and the Final Fantasy vibes seamlessly, which is something the later games struggled to an extent. Even if you like the original characters, let's not forget that the Disney IPs were a major player in the series.

So almost a year ago I wrote a comment about the next step, going through the next door. Here I go again, getting closer to Christmas and being away from family, friends and loved ones I realized that there is a lot of sadness in this world. Everytime I hear this song, there’s a great calmness. It’s like sitting around quietly and watching your past months and years. A lot of feelings come around me, a lot of sadness and regret. Things I haven’t done, things I haven’t said. It doesn’t feel overwhelming it’s just a calm:” that’s not all for life”. Around all of those feelings of regret, grief and hurt there is still hope and trust. It’s numbed, I feel it... but it’s alive. Trust... self trust... a word I didn’t know before. I trusted people and I got hurt, I believed in my dreams and they destroyed it, putting a different reality on mine. Feels like being underwater. I can see the light, the people and my dreams above the water but I have been sank too far. It’s like buried alive. The words won’t come out of my mouth, they stay inside my throat, vibrating and slowly sinking to the ground where they remain silent... The next door... trying to open it alone... the door is to heavy. Can a man open it alone? All the things I seek and searched for lie behind it. But it’s too heavy, everytime I try I sink exhausted back to the ground and remain silent. I wonder who came out of this prison or how someone else’s prison looks like... but there is still this music. Reminding me, That something great is about to happen on my next try when I will open the door for next year. The hate, grief and regret will help me to push finally through the waters surface and let me breathe deeply. On this first breaths in reality and freedom my brothers and sisters will help my out of the water and welcome me again in the world of the living because they missed me so hard. I won't say one final world is better than the other. All of them bring something unique to their game and fit the main theme of the game rather well. Even games like 358 do this well despite it just being Twilight Town. But this one gives me the most chills out of all of them.

This game made it genuinely feel like all of the worlds are in danger. You don’t visit Disney worlds just because it’s Disney, you visit them because they’re vulnerable to being lost forever by the darkness. And the game makes this very clear when destiny islands is lost at the beginning, and here at the very end. Heartless being present in a world was a symptom that the world was dying. They weren’t just enemies you fight, they were a serious threat that needed to be stopped.

I'm really hoping that either in KH4 or the final KH game, the final world is gonna be an area like the End of the World except instead of it including all of the worlds from that game specifically, it has pieces of every single world from across the entire series, culminating in a final battle against the last remaining True Darkness and as the game builds up to it, this theme is playing in the background, calling back to the end of Sora's first adventure... as he begins the ending of what will be his last in one way or another. I get the feeling that if this was ever to happen, it would happen when both Reality and Unreality have been fully taken over by darkness, the Master's plan has failed and the only way to fix it all is to do as the prophecies told; a clash of pure light and pure darkness, twelve darknesses and six lights have all done the same thing... now it's just down to the last of both sides to forge the X-Blade, the TRUE X-Blade, and use its power to control Kingdom Hearts to put everything back the way it was... or perhaps, a better ending; create a world where neither light nor dark exist, a world of complete neutrality to prevent something like this from ever happening again, no hearts of light or hearts of darkness, no Keyblade wielders of either side, no right and no wrong, no reason for conflict. ...In a sense, a world similar to that of what Xehanort wanted... just taking the alternate route; a world of balance not created by equal light and dark, but a world created by neither light or dark, a world where neither of them can exist... a world where it's as if neither side existed in the first place.

They could have had you revisit the worlds but no NPC's (like Jane and Carpet and Triton) but parts of the worlds are missing shrouded in darkness and at each of the worlds the respective followers are found but thiers heart are floating above them (like how Sora dies) and then disappear in the darkness then a mini-boss battle starts to save the said follower then said followers use thier hearts to restore thiers world and (not lock) time freeze themselves as Sora move to the next
