Ah memories. In order to win this fight for the first time ever for me, I had no idea how to play rpgs and ran away from a lot of fights to experience the story quicker. Took me over at least 50 tries to beat him. I perfectly memorized his move pool and attack patterns during that time so when I fought him again recently I beat him so easily it felt wrong

And thats the beauty of a GOOD combat system. Never had anything like Kingdom Hearts or Devil May Cry in terms of a good quick responsive third person Combat System.

SE nerfed the hell out of Riku-Ansem in Final Mix. We only got that version of the fight with 1.5.

Finished this game for the first time a few days ago, and this is hands down both my favourite theme and fight in the game. It was so nice to have a fast paced boss encounter after how much slower all the Disney/Heartless bosses were in comparison.

Just beat this game for the first time the other day and it was on Proud mode. After getting my ass handed to me by nearly every boss and encounter, no feeling in the world can compare to the euphoria I felt beating Ansem-Riku first try. Sight reading his moves and out-maneuvering him felt so good after going 1-22 to him on Destiny Isle at the start of the game. Great boss. It and Ansem phase 2 were my fav fights in the game.
