The only word I can think to describe Dearly Beloved is just Bittersweet.. Something or someone has made you so happy yet.. there's a feeling of emptiness. A feeling that snakes its way into your soul and ensnares your heart.

Qaiser Latif you've just figured out the riddle of how to describe the dark side of Dearly Beloved. It has such a sad vibe to it that I can't explain... Thanks for your explanation. And I'm glad I'm not the only one that sees this song like that.
@lewiscarroll42906 жыл бұрын
I see it as the other way round... The music seems somewhat mournful/nostalgic, but when it loops round and the accompaniments are added in, it sounds like hope for the future (especially thinking of the ending of KH 1 when (SPOILERS) The trio are walking along an empty road just after the worlds are restored (and Kairi is left all alone on Destiny Islands) and Donald or Goofy (can't remember which) asks, 'So what are we gonna do now?', and Sora's like, 'It's obvious - we're going to find Riku and King Mickey.' And the camera pans up and the massive fields and long winding road spread out into the distance... You get the gist of it

Also, chain of memories and 358/2 take place around the same time. Coincidentally, the extra part of dearly beloved was added after kh1. Which is when roxas and namine are born. Maybe the extra part represents roxas being half of sora. Like how the theme felt somewhat empty in the beginning. I dunno. Just food for thought.

My attempt at trying to capture the feeling of each rendition (excluding reprises and extras) 0:01 KH1: A child with a lot of potential playing beginner level piano 3:33 KHCoM: A pretty melody shared between friends(Namine REALLY shows here) 5:55 KH2: A magnificent beast slowly waking from its slumber. This whole song sounds like a huge, beautiful, and amazingly satisfying stretch in the morning. 12:51 KH358/2: Romance. The harp, the flute, the strings...it IS Romance. All in the traditional sense. It literally is *the* aubade alluded to by the actual Aubade keyblade. (Aubade: a morning love song or poem of lovers separating at dawn) 18:38 KHCoded: You're witnessing a bright, but only golden yellow sunrise within a white, empty expanse. Just white. Very pure 21:36 KHBBS: A grand lullaby meant to lull you to sleep. The sun has gone and the sky is already twinkling with stars 28:32 KH3D: I know it's different from BBS but it gives off pretty much the exact same feeling. Just with a tad more hope? 34:51 KH1.5: You're walking into an abandoned KH Library. There are dusty books strewn about with a ray of glowing light illuminating the scattered pages, waiting for you to explore them. 37:03 KH2.5/2.8: You've literally just walked into Yoko Shimomura's studio. She's experimenting around with the melody alone in the late afternoon. 39:32 KHX: It's a very slow, but very warm sunrise. All in a small child's POV. They wake up and get ready to rush out the door to play with their friends 42:28 KHX Backcover: A chamber orchestra just got together for a KH jam session. It's like a fusion of BBS and KH2's style but less grand. Just more somber (For those of you who want to know, my favorites are Days and KH2. Coded comes close)

Edit: This is something that I made when I was more childish. But it seems more people are still commenting on my poem. And surprisingly, I need to make clear to the person who says “it’s pretty sad that you learned all this from a game and not your parents,” as well as the person who says “it’s just a game,” that this poem is talking about more than just a game. Kingdom Hearts is not a real place here on Earth, every single one of us understand that clearly. So our “Kingdom Hearts” come from somewhere else. While the game may be magical to many, it’s not where we learn what our lives or, or where they’ll take us. Our “Kingdom” is our special place or person that made us feel truly special. For me, my Kingdom Hearts is my family. They taught me to laugh, to cry, to stand tall and strong, to keep going when everything is holding me down, and revealed to me what’s beyond the door of possibilities. I wouldn’t be here if not for them. They are my family and my kingdom. So that’s what it’s about. Not some game. But the life we live(d) throughout, and what our kingdom means to us. My family and my friends are my everything. You taught me to face my fears. You taught me to resist the darkness. You taught me to fight for those you love. You taught me to fight for all I believe in. You taught me that a smile can go a long way. You taught me that memories were worth making. You taught me that one can be freed from the dark. You taught me to never give up, even when all seems down. You taught me to stand back up again. You taught me to love and protect with everything I have. You taught me love, life, truth, joy, and most importantly, heart. You taught me... A kingdom of unity, hidden but open to all. From which a warrior was born, so that darkness would fall. A key, which holds the secret to peace and liberty. You taught me to be all of who I can be. No power can overcome what is made in the hearts of friends. Let thy power flow true, until darkness may meet their ends. A heart, many hearts revealed before a door, Revealing what life is, that memories shall be made more. United by our spirits, we now play our parts, May you stand and be with us evermore, Kingdom Hearts.

I cried reading this, I'm going through a hard time with life right now and this made me feel like I wasn't alone. Like other people are here with me, going through the same thing, stuck in this darkness, trying to find light that we felt was too far away. When really, we had it all along: we had it in our hearts and let this darkness take over. But no more will I be lost in darkness, because I'm surrounded by light. Pure light, the light of Kingdom Hearts. "May your heart be your guiding key." - Master Yen Sid

I love how the 358/2days version tells you that, no, they won't go to the beach; that it's not their story, not their place, not their chance; they don't belong there, they don't belong anywhere. They live in a slow expectation, and there lies their happiness. They are nostalgic from a future they kind of know will never happen. It's a particular feeling, that I've never found in any other game, and this is why this game is a masterpiece. Even in litterature, I can only think of Buzzati's The Tartar Steppe, but it would lack the profound innocence of the caracters.

I never really was all that into KH as a kid, bit my friend and his brother were Huge fans. I'd always spend the night at his house and we'd watch his brother play all sorts of games. Kingdom hearts, Zelda, etc. So many nights we'd watch him play and fall asleep, only for me to wake up at a random hour to hear this song playing on the menu, and they were all out cold. I miss those days, back when things were simpler, and less stressful. I know that's how life is for literally everyone, but fuck man. Something can't be right if everyone out here coming to this video to talk about how much they miss those days and hate being older. I really think things could have been so much better for all of us, if only I knew what went wrong. I'd do anything to have all those friends back in one place, I'd do anything to have those nights and those sleepovers again. I miss all that. I can never go back but I'll always want to. Stay strong guys, maybe one day, we won't feel like that anymore. Maybe you'll find your peace one day, and this song will simply serve as a happy memory, instead of a painful reminder.

I’ve already said this many times but yeah I hope for everyone who deserves it that they get their bright future. Ya know what's really ironic? Getting his friends back and going back home to the good ol' days is why Sora fights in Kingdom Hearts. That and to right the world from all the lost and weary hearts. You really should give the games a try, you'd be pleasantly surprised. At first even I didn't like the idea of it. I mean, c'mon, Disney Square Enix?! lol wot..? Or so I thought at the time. A distant dream, that's like a far off memory. Millions of hearts connected. A million hearts, one sky. Brought together by one story. Together, we waded through thr darkness towards the light. Fought through armies of Heartless, hordes of Nobodies, and legions of Unversed. We laughed, we cried. We were victiourious, we suffered from bitter defeat. We won everything just to lose it all in the end. Nothing is forever. Nothing is permanent. So, tonight, we salute. To Sora. The hero no one expected. To Kairi. Sora's guide through the darkness. God I've listened through this entire video so many times and it's crazy to think about how it's basically all the same song. Dearly Beloved is probably one of the best musical pieces ever. The original was already amazing and beautiful but the fact that it can be made into so many distinctly different versions and still hold the basic melody is incredible. You can listen to it on repeat without ever getting tired as well. Yoko Shimura deserves so much praise for this. Dearly Beloved is just a one of a kind song that I don't think can ever be replicated. It's just beautiful.

Every time I hear delays beloved I cant help myself to hold back my tears. I remember me coming home with bloody, muddy torn cloths with huge gashes in my arms and legs and big bruises and missing teeth and a black eye because I was always ganged up on and had the ever living shit beat out if me every day I came home from school. My "Dad" if you can even call him that would hit me every time I came home late, brought in a leaf, or just about anything. He also did the same to my mum, but she was a drug addict. I would always be in constant physical pain and mental pain aswell. I have schzfrinna still to this day along with major depression and ADD. I would always be crying or being hit all the time no matter what. Yet with all of that going on to me I always had my best friends, Sora, Donald, goofy, namie, roxas, Karie, Micky, Riku, aqwa, ventures, and many more. Kingdom hearts has always been there for me when noone else has and it will always be my bestest friend forever. I will never forget the theme ever. I will never forget my friends on KH. I will never forget what KH has thought me. Much love to all of thee and I wish you all that you find your way in the darkness. I hope you find your KINGDOM HEARTS. Many friends, all come and gone, a few loves that were not meant to be, questioning my future and sense of self, learning who I truly was and accepting that I wasnt like the others, only to find those who truly mattered to me and I cherished. Though some memories are bittersweet and full of longing, that only makes me grow more fond of them. In my opinion, the first ever version, Kingdom Hearts 1, was the best of them all. It was the most basic, which made it so endearing, and the resemblance to a beating heart just topped it off. It symbolized how it resonates within you and stays in your heart forever. Some proof of that is I hadn't had anything to do with any KH games for about 8 or so years, since I was about 9 ish. In that time, at that age, you'd expect me to forget every single thing about all of the games. But out of nowhere, I heard about 2 seconds of Dearly Beloved from KH 1 in a video here on KZbin, and I immediately recognized it and felt incredibly nostalgic. Since then, I have made the effort to find my copies of 1 and 2 for my PS2, and I've been replaying the games again. DB on KH 1 gets me every single time I hear it, so it's the best ever version of it if you ask me.

You can group all of Unchained X, X Back Cover and Union X in one part, the Kingdom Hearts III version and the one other variant used in a cutscene (that also sounds in the PS4 System Theme that you get for Pre Ordering ReMind) and finally, Melody of Memories. I was born in 1997 I'm so glad I grew up playing Kingdom hearts in 2002.

Dude I was born in 2000, but I according to my mom I would sit in her lap and watch her play kingdom hearts because it was the "Disney game." Been a fan since I was still pooping myself apparently.

dearly beloved of kh2 seems like a the beginning of a new day and a new journey like there's tons of things to do , the reprise at the end of the game is more calm and peacefull like its the end of the day and the journey like you know you ve done your part. i love how the contrast is significant for the game like sora wake up at the beginning, we don't see him sleep all the game after he's awake until the end when he comeback to his island where he can finally take some rest among his friends

My favourite one is from 358/2 days, the tone is different, kinda feels like roxas version....

Yoko actually did that on purpose. She made Roxas' theme have flutes in it and the Dearly Beloved adopted them.

14 years have passed and I still cry every time I listen to this song. I was still in junior high school at that time and playing Kingdom Hearts II. This opening song really makes me nostalgic, bringing back my childhood. And now I am an adult and will get married. Thank you for bringing this song! I really appreciate it.

You know, I sometimes feel like Kingdom Hearts is explaining us life itself. Like, not in a literal way but in a more pure, innocent and symbolic way which wants us to think for ourselfs of what we have in this life or how we see this world. At least it's my interpretation and I like to think of it that way.

I feel this game so deeply I feel like it’s a far off dream that’s like a scattered memory or maybe a scattered memory that’s like a far off dream. I have hope that this world is one of many and I’m in a simulation or test. Because kingdom hearts came to me when I was 3 years old and the nostalgic love in my heart is bigger than anything else. I believe there’s a key blade waiting for me. And some day after this life my real life will begin. And the same for us all.

I love 3’s version. It’s so beautiful and delicate, but also sad sounding. Perfect for this game.

I like it but think they tried too hard so the shine is kinda of gone. But it doesnt make it bad. Just makes it my least favourite. But the game...THATS another story of why I love kingdom hearts
